Background

20th Digital Studio (formerly known as Fox Digital Studio from 2008-2013 and Zero Day Fox from 2013-2020) was a division of 20th Century Studios established in 2008 to produce TV and film initially for digital platforms like Netflix and Hulu before expanding to traditional markets. On April 26, 2023, the studio was dissolved.

Fox Digital Studio

Logo (2009-2014)

Visuals: A remake of the 20th Century Fox logo, only now it appears to be a hybrid between the 1994 and 2009 logos. The structure also now reads "FOX DIGITAL STUDIO". The light intro is also present, but it is different from the 1994 logo.

Trivia:

  • This logo was designed and animated by Robert Holtby, using 3DS Max and Adobe After Effects and rendered with the V-Ray plugin.
  • He also created an unrelated 20th Century Fox logo mock, dubbed "20th Century Rob", which uses the same design as the Fox Digital Studio logo (although slightly modified). It can be seen here.

Variants:

  • The alternate version of this logo has a dark feel to it; the sky background is dark blue and the structure is colored teal with computer mainframe textures. The light intro is also removed.
  • A shortened version exists.

Technique: Same as the 1994 and 2009 20th Century Fox logos.

Audio: None, the opening theme or the 1997 20th Century Fox Television fanfare.

Availability: Seen on films and shows from the era such as The Ropes, Wolfpack of Reseda, Let's Big Happy, Shotgun Wedding and How to Be a Man, among others.

Zero Day Fox

Logo (2014-2020)

Visuals: A more realistic remake of the 2009-2020 20th Century Fox logo with the structure now reading "ZERO DAY FOX". The sky is also different and darker than usual, a la the Searchlight Pictures logo. The light intro is also removed.

Trivia:

  • This logo was also designed and animated by Robert Holtby within a three-week period (with one extra week for rendering), using 3DS Max and Adobe After Effects. He has a video that breaks down the logo's compositing, which can be seen here.
  • If one looks closely, people, possibly tourists, can be seen behind the structure. This is not present on the normal Fox structure.

Variants:

  • There is an alternate version similar to that of the previous logo.
  • Open matte versions of both variants exist.
  • A sped-up version exists.

Technique: Same as the 2009 20th Century Fox logo.

Audio: None or the 1997 20th Century Fox Television fanfare.

Availability: Seen on Suit Up 2, Phenoms, Parallels and Mono among others.

20th Digital Studio

1st Logo (October 10, 2022-April 28, 2023)

Visuals: Just the print 20th Digital logo (the 20th Television logo, only with "DIGITAL" replacing "TELEVISION") in white on a black background.

Variant: A close-up version exists.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None or the closing theme of the film/show.

Availability:

  • It made its official debut with Grimcutty, released on October 10, 2022, and later appeared on Matriarch, released just eleven days after the logo's initial debut.
  • This logo made its last appearance on Clock, released on April 28, 2023.

2nd Logo (June 15-October 9, 2023)

Visuals: A redone version of the 2014 logo, except "20th DIGITAL STUDIO" now replaces "ZERO DAY FOX", the people are removed behind the structure, and the sky background is different. A light intro (the same animation as the 2009 film logo) is now added back in, and the logo has elements from both the Fox Digital Studio and Zero Day Fox logos. The camera animation also starts fast and slows down at the end.

Trivia: This was first shown on a promotional Grimcutty post on December 1, 2022, and the full logo was uploaded on Robert Holtby's channel on April 11, 2023.

Variants:

  • A darker tone version exists, where the logo is now in a night-time setting and is tinted in blue.
  • A lighter version of the regular logo exists. However, this was not meant to be used as an official variant.
  • A scope version exists, seen at the end of Appendage.

Technique: CGI once again designed by Robert Holtby, done in 3DS Max and Adobe After Effects and rendered with the V-Ray plugin.

Audio: The closing theme of the film.

Availability:

  • It made its official debut at the end of Jagged Mind, and later appeared on Appendage, released on October 2, 2023.
  • It made its final appearance on The Mill, released on October 9, 2023, which was also 20th Digital Studio's final film.
