Background

87North Productions is an American film production company led by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick, founded in 2019 as a partnership with Universal Pictures.

1st Logo (September 10, 2021-)

Visuals: On a black background, some paper is uncrumpling to reveal a black city with two stick people fighting on the street. Then a car swerves in, and another stick person comes out of the car fighting while the other one kicks it into an open manhole. A helicopter flies by dropping another stick person prepared to fight, as it and the surviving stick figure face each other striking a battle pose. It transitions to the logo, where the word "EIGHTYSEVEN" is shown with one camera lens on the top left and the word "PRODUCTIONS" is seen below while other words keep writing and erasing themselves into the right side, altogether reading a message: "EVERYTHING", "YOU WANT", "IS ON", "THE OTHER", and "SIDE OF FEAR". Then it turns into the word "NORTH" with a vertical line at the left and the whole logo turns silver.

Technique: Unique CGI resembling sketchbook drawings. Animation directed by Michael Washington, who has some behind-the-scenes footage on his website.

Audio: Off screen, a man (presumably David Leitch himself), yells "Action!" When the fight starts, a woman's voice (presumably Kelly McCormick) whispers "Design" and punching, kicking, squealing tires, and helicopter propellers are heard. The logo itself is accompanied by sketching noises and a whoosh.

Audio Variants:

  • Starting with Bullet Train, the dialog is omitted. In its place is a single-held dramatic note throughout the stick figure fight. The logo is accompanied by a high pitched noise akin to scrolling data in an action movie and the same whoosh as before.
  • On Violent Night, the opening theme of the film starts when the company name forms.

Availability: So far, it has been seen on Kate, Bullet Train, and Violent Night.

2nd Logo (March 12, 2024-)

Visuals: It starts off like the previous logo, except that a sign reading "EVERYTHING YOU WANT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF FEAR" in a white outlined font appears to the right side of the street. Instead of dropping another stick figure, the helicopter instead drops a cyan neon-outlined box, which features stylized silhouettes of characters from the company's previous films, such as Lorraine Broughton from Atomic Blonde and Hutch Mansell from Nobody, turning the entire scene cyan-tinted upon impact, complete with being entirely cyan-outlined and the text on the sign glowing in red. The sides of the box then fall out, revealing the company's logo, which consists of a neon sign shaped like a box with the letters "87N" in it, with an arrow pointing above the "N", which lights itself up. The background then fades to black, save for the logo, as the logo continues to glow and the "87" and the arrow gain a cyan fill. The logo then flickers as "87NORTH PRODCTIONS" flickers in below. The logo slowly zooms in as it forms.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie, accompanied with thumping sounds for the box.

Availability: So far, only seen on The Fall Guy.
