Background

A. Film A/S is a Danish animation studio which was founded on August 1, 1988 by by animators Stefan Fjeldmark, Karsten Killerich, Jørgen Lerdam, and Hans Perk and producer Anders Mastrup. In 1995, Egmont purchased 50% of A. Film and moved A. Film under the umbrella of its film division, Nordisk Film.

1st Logo (1995-2002)

Logo: During the end credits, we see the posterized version of a pig covered in a blackish substance (which might be mud) with a smiley face plastered on his face smiling at us. Under it is the text "A·FILM".

Variant: Since this is an in-credit logo, every movie/short with it has it with a different color or in a different position.

FX/SFX: The credits scrolling.

Music/Sounds: The music during the end credits.

Availability: The first time the logo was used was in the poster for Jungledyret Hugo 2, however, the logo didn't appear in the movie; its on-screen debut was on original prints of When Life Departs, (even though it's hard to find, newer prints plastered it with the 2nd logo). It was also seen during the end credits of Help! I'm A Fish (including the CD-ROM game) and in a UNICEF PSA against kidnapping and child trafficking made by Jørgen Lerdam.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (2002- )

Nickname: "A Pig Stuck in the Ovoid"

Logo: During the end credits, we see a black oblong with a pink pig inside with the same face from the first logo. Under the oblong is the text "A·FILM", with the dot in a pink color, sometimes with "PRODUCTION" below.

Variants:

  • On the 2003 reissue of When Life Departs, a prototype version is seen without a black oblong on the black background along with the Magma Films logo.
  • On Estonian productions, the text reads "A•Film Estonia" or "A•Film Eesti"; the pig is running instead.
  • On Albert, the logo is in grayscale and the pig winks at the viewer.

FX/SFX: The scrolling of the credits.

Music/Sounds: The music during the end credits.

Availability: Uncommon. This logo was first seen at the end of A·Film's adaptations of Hans Christian Andersen tales. It was also seen at the end of the 2003 reissue of When Life Departs, Terkel in Trouble, Asterix and the Vikings, The Ugly Duckling and Me, Amazon Jack, Niko and The Way to the Stars, Journey to Saturn, The Olsen Gang Gets Polished, Niko 2, The Olsen Gang in Deep Trouble, Alfie Atkins: Hocus Pocus and Albert.
