Not to be confused with ABC Motion Pictures.

Background

ABC Films was the short-lived film division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which was active from 1997 until 2000. In 2021, the ABC revived the division (under the "ABC" name) for cinema screenings of ABC features and films, internationally and at home in Australia.

1st Logo (1997-2000)

Logo: On a black background, the ABC logo animates in the same way it did in its television and video counterparts, except this time, it's on the top half of the screen and much smaller than before. After that, the spaced-out word "FILMS" zooms in underneath it.

Trivia: This logo is based on the 1995-1996 ABC-TV idents

Technique: The same flipping animation as the ABC Video logo and the zoom-in of the "FILMS" text.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 3rd ABC Video logo.

Availability: So far, only spotted on the Australian DVD and VHS release of Thomas and the Magic Railroad. It may or may not have been seen on other films released by them, despite them also distributing Her Majesty Mrs. Brown.

2nd Logo (2021-)

Logo: On a blue background with light spots, the revived 1975 ABC Lissajous curve logo, slowly zooming out from the screen, draws itself in two halves in black. A flash of light occurs as the logo turns white on a black background, with the light of a film projector coming from the right-side of the screen, as the letters of "ABC" in the ABC Sans font appear below the lissajous.

Technique: The animation of the 2D lissajous drawing as it zooms out, the "A", "B", and "C" letters forming as they zoom out, and the light of the projector from the right-side.

Music/Sounds: A re-done version of the 3-note jingle from the ABC's 1988-1994 idents, with the sound of a film projector. Composed by David McDonald.

Availability: Rare. It's only seen before cinema screenings of ABC features and films, internationally and in Australia.
