Background

The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) is a television network, owned by Disney since 1996. They are not directly involved in game development, but Disney uses the logo on ABC-based licenses.



1st Logo (April 7-June 17, 2004)

Visuals: Just the ABC logo, seen alongside the 2001 Buena Vista Interactive logo, on the same background as the title screen. Below it is a copyright stamp for Touchstone Television.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Alias.

2nd Logo (October 5, 2006)

Visuals: A shiny, amber-tinted version of the ABC logo fades it, with golden lights circling around the edge of it and a faint white glow surrounding it. A white beam of light draws around the logo, leaving light trails that zoom out.

Trivia: This logo is based on ABC's 2006-07 ident.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Desperate Housewives.

3rd Logo (October 23, 2007-October 11, 2011)

Visuals: Just the 2007 ABC logo on a background, which varies by game:

  • On Wipeout: The Game and Wipeout 2 for Nintendo DS, the background is black.
  • On the Dancing with the Stars video game, the background is white. The ABC logo is smaller in this variant.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Wipeout: The Game for Nintendo DS. The white background variant appears on Dancing with the Stars.

4th Logo (February 26, 2008-September 25, 2012)

Visuals:

  • February 26, 2008-June 22, 2010: In a white room with grey smoke lingering around it, a shiny black play button is seen in the center of the screen, quickly splitting into 4 circles with a iPod, TV, laptop, and phone (from the farther back clockwise) surrounded by a revolving red ribbon. The buttons rotate around between each picture, with bubbles emitting briefly from them, as the camera bobs about for a bit, and then all the buttons merge back into a single play button. The play button then grows in size and rotates around to reveal the ABC text, forming the 2007 ABC logo, as bubbles and a red ribbon appear from behind it. A translucent arrow then wipes in "start here" to the right of the logo and then disappears.
  • October 11, 2011: Similar to the previous version, but the background has no smoke and is in a slight gold tint. The button zooms out while rotating to face the screen, before quickly splitting into the 4 images in different positions to before, surrounded by red and gold ribbons. The buttons then merge back into the play button and the ABC logo forms the same way, but with no "start here" and additional bubbles surrounding it.
  • September 25, 2012: Same as the previous version, but with a golden background with lighter-colored streaks flowing around. When the logo forms a orange streak flies around it, releasing more bubbles.

Visuals: The ABC logo, now cel-shaded and colored with an amber shine (a la the 2nd logo), zooms out while the shine rotates around. As it zooms out, the background is briefly colored gold before the light retracts to the sides off-screen, leaving an glow around the logo as the shines move to their final position.

Trivia: This logo is based on ABC's 2013 ident.

Technique: Computer animation by Loyalkaspar.

Audio: A held synthesized note plays throughout as whooshing and sparkling can be heard in the background, and at the end, the "ABC" voiceover from before is used.

Availability: Seen on Wipeout: Create and Crash.
