Background

ACTRA (The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) was also first known as ACRA (Association of Canadian Radio Artists) is a Canadian trade union representing preformers in English-language media was founded in 1943. ACRA changed their name to The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) in 1984.



1st Logo (1990-1992, 1999-2004)

Logo: Scrolling up in the credits, there is a diamond with the letters "ACTRA" in a wide serif inside of it.

Variant: Different colored versions exist corresponding to the credit roll's text color.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show/movie.

Availability: Rare. Seen on films funded by ACTRA from the 1990's until 2004, like Bingo and Shanghai Noon.

2nd Logo (1992-2000, 2000-2007)

Logo: Scrolling in the credits, we see a wide rectangle which casts a shadow, with a thin sideways arc on top of it. Next to the shapes is the word "ACTRA" in a stylized font with the "A"'s bent.

Variant:

  • Different colored versions exist corresponding to the credit roll's text color.
  • From 2000-2007, the shapes were deleted and the words "Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists" in a plain font is seen below "ACTRA".

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show/movie.

Availability: Rare. Seen on films funded by ACTRA from 1992-2007, like Legends of the Fall, Johnny Mnemonic, To Die For, Booty Call, Good Will Hunting, Night of the Twisters, Turn It Up, and Snow Dogs.

3rd Logo (1998-2005, 2008-February 10, 2012)

Logo: Scrolling in the credits, we see a thin crescent shape with a wider crescent placed on the bottom right, with a dot below the thin crescent. Below it is "ACTRA" which is spaced-out and in a squished font. A line with a smaller line running to the top on the left and one running to the bottom on the right is below the text, and below that is "TORONTO PERFORMERS".

Variant: From 2008-2012, the line and "TORONTO PERFORMERS" is deleted.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show/movie.

Availability: Uncommon nowadays. Seen on films and TV shows funded by ACTRA from 1998-2012, like Snow Day, On The Line, The Santa Clause 2, Shanghai Knights, Monster-in-Law, and The Man. Currently plastered with the current ACTRA logo.

4th Logo (2001-)

Logo: In the credits, we see three orange circles with a gradient effect. In the middle there is a yellow spot with a red stylized humanoid figure. Below the shape on the right side is "ACTRA".

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is in it's white print form.
  • In 2019, the stylized humanoid figure was removed.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show/movie.

Availability: Current and ultra common in Canadian television. Seen on Gawayn, the end of Gummibär: The Yummy Gummy Search for Santa, and virtually every Canadian movie/show funded by ACTRA, usually present with the Writers Guild of Canada logo.
