Background

AKA Acclaim (formerly Acclaim Max Sports) was the extreme sports brand of Acclaim Entertainment that was launched in June 2000, and was best known for the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX games. In 2003, Acclaim discontinued the brand along with Acclaim Sports.

Logo (September 14, 2000-June 7, 2002)


Visuals: A rectangle split between a grey top section and a red-orange bottom section fades in and swings to the center of the screen, with the bottom portion featuring a silver swish. As it swings in, the Acclaim wordmark slams down onto the the top section one-by-one, while "MAX SPORTS" in a futuristic "sporty" font slides in on the bottom, squashing a bit before stretching to its full length.

Variants:

  • On the PlayStation and Dreamcast versions of Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, the in-game Dave Mirra is shown cycling down a ramp decorated with the game's logo. The camera cuts to a side view as Mirra does various tricks on the ramp. As the fourth trick has him fly off the ramp, the camera pans up to reveal the base of the Acclaim Max Sports logo. The normal animation then proceeds, albeit slower than usual.
  • On Freestyle Motorcross, the logo appears above.

Visuals: In the dark, the sound of a spray can is heard, indicating someone is spraying something for a few seconds. However, the sound of police sirens are then heard in the distance and the unseen figure runs off, knocking over something metallic in the process. A street lamp then starts to flicker on, revealing the graffiti text "AKA" in huge white letters with exaggerated features, blinking independently from the rest of the brick wall for a second. On the right half of the wall is a torn-up poster of the XGIII: Extreme G Racing cover art, with the Acclaim wordmark below the 2nd "A", and a knocked over trash can is seen rolling around the bit, as well as a discarded spray can. After the street lamp stops flickering, "AKA" starts to slowly drip wet paint.

Variants:

  • On Aggressive Inline and BMX XXX, the logo is still and is inverted.
  • On Aggressive Inline for GBA, there is a massive red line and "AKA" and "Acclaim" are white instead of black.
  • On Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3, the logo is red, and is set behind a background with a biker and a wall in orange.
