Notability

Shortcut:
AVID currently boasts more than 15,000 articles. While we always welcome expansion and new entries to the database, keep in mind that not every logo, bumper or screen deserves its own entry. If that were the case then we wouldn't have any way to keep track of it! Therefore, we have compiled a list of guidelines of what entry should be included in our database.

General guidelines

A company or studio must fulfill one of the following:

  • Have one of their releases screened theatrically. Logos that appear on theatrical feature films are generally allowed.
  • Have one of their releases screened in a festival. Not every logo from a film should be included. Your logo from a school project likely wouldn't meet the criteria, unless it fulfills the other criteria. At the bare minimum, they should be screened in at least one film festival.
  • Have an official distributor. Logos from releases that are officially distributed, and the distributor's logo, are generally allowed.
  • Have one or more physical releases. Unless it meets other criteria, a logo from an obscure video or online game would not be allowed.
  • Have one of their releases aired on television or a paid service.
  • Have news coverage of either the company, their logo, or one of their releases.
    • Personal blogs and comments do not count as notable news coverage.
  • Have one of their releases nominated for and/or won at least one award.
  • Have one of their releases funded by the government or at least three companies.
  • For video games and apps, have one of their releases downloaded or played at least 500,000 times.

Entries that are exempt from these guidelines include bumpers of television stations, cinema trailers, test cards, leaders and slates.

Special cases

Online channels and streams

For online channels and streams (YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc.), they must have either a minimum of 500,000 subscribers/followers or have news coverage. Personal blogs and comments do not count as notable news coverage.

Social media accounts

Similarly, social media accounts require a minimum of 500,000 followers. Personal blogs and comments do not count as notable news coverage.

Wikis

Wikis must have a minimum of 1,000 pages.
