Rollover text function request

Rollover text (text that appears when you hover your cursor on specific text [indicated by, say, a dotted underline] on desktop, or tap on that text on mobile) could be practical for, say, showing the romanization of foreign languages, while not wasting too much page space.

Ex.: underlined text that says "東宝株式会社", but when you hover your cursor on it, the rollover will show "Tōhō Kabushikigaisha". This is a feature I've seen being used by other MediaWiki-powered wikis, so I see the possibility of its implementation here.

Support

  • Support Good idea, especially when it manages space and lengthy sentences. However, I see this function more beneficial for the translation of text rather than the romanization of them. People would like to know what the text actually means rather than what it reads (but it can still work grouping both translations and romanization meanings together). So this is a convenient way of displaying their translation by not having readers do the task of copy and pasting them into a translator while at the same time making the description reasonably shorter. Perhaps it can have other uses on the wiki. The aspect I mentioned is one of them. Camenati (talk) 21:59, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
