AVID:Requests for Comment/Restructure the RfC Voting System

I feel like, with the current RfC system, there isn't a clear reason for "strongest support" and other variations to exist, for as far as I'm aware, they only count as 1 point. I am going to make 2 proposals here for potential improvements to the system. (Lets chat!) 12:19, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

1. Remove all variants of Support and Oppose

Under this proposal, the voting system would be limited to just Support, Oppose and Abstain. This would also curb the usage of extended "Strongest Support" intros.

Support (1)

1. Support I feel like it's simpler and fairer than the points-based proposal or having different different types of "Support" and "Oppose". · Talk · Edits 12:22, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

4. Support I agree. "Strongest" is too hyperbolic and it doesn't serve much of a point overall. I can see with "strong" and "weak" to express how people really feel about certain RFCs, but with "strongly", "strongest", and "weakly", they just don't make a lot of sense and add no value to one position other than "I like/hate this idea as humanely possible!", sometimes with no clear reason to support such an exaggerated argument. Unlike the other RFC, this one feels more reasonable to consider since there are a lot of these variants that have no purpose other than silly jokes. Camenati (talk)

Oppose (1)

2. Make each level of support/oppose have a point value.

As above, this will allow for each variant of support to have a point value equal to its level of strength.

• Weak support and oppose is worth 1/2 a point.
• Standard support and oppose is worth 1 point.
• Strong support and oppose is worth 2 points.
• Strongest support and oppose is worth 3 points.
• Abstain votes are worth no points as usual.

Oppose (2)

Oppose It will be unfair in multiple cases since the dishonest "strongest votes" will ultimately win over the honest ones (e.g. two "strongest supports" over five "standard opposes" does not work). Plus, this system is really easy to abuse. Users will make sure the side they're on receives as much points as possible by picking the "strongest" variant every time.
