Background

Abbey Home Media was a British home entertainment company, formed on March 4, 2002 by Ian and Anne Miles after its predecessor Abbey Home Entertainment was folded into Just Entertainment. On May 4, 2020, Anne Miles died; shortly afterwards, it was announced that Abbey Home Media would be shutting down, due to "uncertain circumstances". Two years later, the company was dissolved on December 13th.

Abbey Home Media

1st Logo (2001-2022?)

Logo: We see the purple words: "Abbey" and "Home Media" underneath, both in generic sans-serif font.

Early Variant: The logo originally appeared with a different font ("Abbey" looks more bold and "Home Media" is narrower) and off-center.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Music/Sounds Variant: On one CBeebies DVD, the sound from the later variant of the Abbey Home Media DVD logo was used.

Availability:

  • The original “off-centered” version appears on early VHS releases, and a small tiny number of DVDs, such as The New Adventures of Mona the Vampire.
  • The later version is rare and appeared on some later released DVDs.

2nd Logo (2014-2016)

Logo: On a white background, we see some white, blue, purple and cyan wavy columns going upwards, forming "Abbey", like in Pompéia Fashion Weekend promos, as white and grey metallic ribbons fly by when the white columns finished going up. The word "Abbey" turns blue and "Home Media" fades in.

Technique: Nice CGI animation with MAXON CINEMA 4D and Adobe After Effects.

Music/Sounds: A low majestic fanfare, and when the logo is formed, there is a high fanfare at the end, not fitting the logo well.

Availability: Seen on then-current Abbey Home Media DVDs.

Abbey Home Media DVD

(2002-2014)

Logo: On a white background, we see the drawn words: "Abbey Home Media" underneath the light blue oval with two six-point stars, red and yellow circular ends, and "DVD" in it.

Variant: On content released under license from Prism Leisure, the logo is squished.

Later Variant: Beginning in 2006, the words "Abbey Home Media" draws itself as a magic comet flies by, revealing the DVD logo.

Technique: On the normal logo, none. On the later variant, the writing and the comet flying.

Music/Sounds: None, but the later variant has a magical sparkle sound.

Availability: Very common. It is seen on almost every Abbey Home Media, Tempo, and Tempo Pre-School DVD release from that time period.
