Background

Akil Productions is the production company of television writer, producers, and husband-and-wife duo Salim & Mara Brock Akil that was founded in 2000. Prior to 2008, the company was known as "Happy Camper Productions".

Nicknames: "The Sunflower", "The Smiling Sunflower"

FX/SFX: The revolving sunflower, the line turning into a smile.

Music/Sounds:

  • September 10, 2001-May 20, 2002: Silence.
  • September 23, 2002-May 18, 2008: A 6-note piano jingle with a ding on the final note.

Availability: Seen on Girlfriends from the second season until the end of the series. Also appeared on the first two seasons of The Game.

Nickname: "The Double Link-Lock"

Logo: On a white background, a symbol with a circle with 4 lines on its connection points rotates 90 degrees to the right and the hole in the symbol splits while the text "AKILPRODUCTIONS" fades in. The background turns black, the symbol turns to a white/silver gradient and raises up a little bit, and the text turns white.

FX/SFX: The symbol rotating and raising. the background fading.

Music/Sounds:

  • October 3, 2008-May 15, 2009: The same music from the Happy Camper Productions logo from 2002.
  • January 11-March 29, 2011: Silence.
  • January 10, 2012-April 17, 2018: A piano theme was used.
  • June 19, 2018-May 24, 2021: A 2-note violin theme.
  • Otherwise, the ending theme of the show plays over it.

Availability: Seen on seasons 3-9 of The Game (as well as its 2021 revival), Being Mary Jane, and Black Lightning.
