Background

Animal Planet, stylized in lowercase since 2018, is an American multinational pay TV channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery Networks, a division of Warner Bros. Discovery. Established on June 1, 1996, it focuses on series and documentaries about wild animals and pets.

Originally a partnership with BBC Worldwide, the channel initially showcased family-friendly nature documentaries. In 2008, Animal Planet rebranded with a more mature approach, featuring aggressive animal portrayals and reality shows about animal-related careers. In October 2018, it rebranded again, moving away from the aggressive image.

1st Logo (1996-2006)

Visuals: On a black background is a CGI render of the Animal Planet logo tilted to the right. The logo consists of a green rectangle with the white silhouette of an elephant on the right side and a rotating Earth globe suspended on the upper left corner. Below is the name stacked like so:

Variants: On Spy on the Wild, the logo is shown over a leopard print background alongside the BBC logo. Here, the logo is positioned to the right of the BBC logo and is tilted to the left. Below, "WORD CLASS TELEVISION" zooms out.

Audio: The closing theme.

Audio Variants: On Spy on the Wild, an announcer says "This has been a presentation of Animal Planet and the BBC, world class television."

Availability: Seen on The Crocodile Hunter and other original programming from the era.

Visuals: In-credit is the following text:

The text is in different shades of green. The "M" is tilted to the right. The first "A" from "ANIMAL" is also bigger than the rest.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme.

Availability: Can be seen on Human Prey.

Visuals: On a blue background is a white elephant silhouette with "animal planet" below. A small white dot appears in front of the elephant. The elephant throws the ball with its trunk, and the ball flies over to the "i" of "animal" and becomes the dot of said letter.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A string sounder, composed by Zelig Sound.

Availability: Can be seen on recent shows from them such as Tanked.
