Background

Atlas Entertainment is the production company of Charles Roven. Its name comes from the Greek mythological figure, Atlas. It was originally formed in 1995 from the merger of Roven and Bob Cavallo's previous company and Steel Pictures, owned by Roven's wife Dawn Steel. In 1999, after Cavallo left the company to join Walt Disney Studios and Steel's death, Atlas was merged with Gold/Miller Management to create Mosaic Media Group. In 2008, Roven split off his ties from Mosaic, and relaunched Atlas Entertainment with a first-look deal at Sony Pictures.



1st Logo (January 16-April 10, 1998)

Visuals: On a black background, a big orange stylized "A", having three ledges to the right, which resemble the letter "E", appears. Below, the name "ATLAS ENTERTAINMENT" is seen.

Variant: On City of Angels, the logo is yellow instead.

Technique: A still image.

Audio: None.

Availability: It only appeared on Fallen and City of Angels.

2nd Logo (February 12, 2009-July 6, 2018)


Visuals: There is a gleaming image of a rotating globus, depicting Earth in ancient scripts. Shreds of white steam pass around as the camera zooms out, and the globus turns glowing white. It lies on the shoulders of a man, a reference to the Greek mythological figure, Atlas. The silver words "ATLAS ENTERTAINMENT" are seen below in Relief font.

Variants:

  • At the end of Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the logo is still.
  • On American Hustle, the logo is given a 1970s retro look to correspond with the movie's time period.
  • On the 12 Monkeys TV series, the logo is shortened.

Technique: CGI by OMSTUDIOS.

Audio: A quiet synth note with wind-like sounds, composed by Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek, and Reinhold Heil, or the opening/closing theme of the movie. None for the still version.

Availability: It first appeared on The International and later appeared on such films as Warcraft, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. It also appeared on the TV series adaptation of 12 Monkeys.

3rd Logo (March 3, 2019-)


Visuals: On a space background, there is a globe emitting a blue aura. The screen pans down to reveal a man (this one more closely resembling the Greek Titan Atlas) once again holding up the globe. As the camera zooms out, and unlike the last logo, the man manages to lift the globe up above him with one arm. The words "ATLAS" in a Trajan font and "E N T E R T A I N M E N T" in an Avenir Next font zoom out below.

Variants:

  • On Wonder Woman 1984, the logo is shortened.
  • At the end of Oppenheimer, the logo is still, and is onscreen for only a second.
  • A sped-up version of this logo exists.
