'''Variant:''' VCDs had a compact disc wipe in at the same time as the warning text in semi-transparent mode; upon the final wipe-out of the last block of text, the CD would fade back in, this time in full color, and would spin and zoom toward the front of the screen as it faded out. This variant also reduces the number of warning text slides from four to three and removes the hologram notice. |

1st Warning (1986-1991)
This logo contains an old telephone number. Please do not try to dial it. |
Visuals: On a black/indigo gradient background, a red grid is seen. A grey rectangle falls onto the grid, then the grid turns yellow. On the rectangle, there is the following white text scrolling:
After the text scrolls away, the NVPI (Nederlandse Vereniging van Producenten en Importeurs van beeld - en geluidsdragers [Dutch Association of Producers and Importers of image and sound carriers]) logo (the word "nvpi" in a yellow outlined font) appears. It then scrolls in the same way and turns so it is facing straight, stopping once it reaches the top of the rectangle. The following text scrolls in the same way as the first portion:
After it reaches the last line of the portion, it stops scrolling. Then, the NVPI logo flies away. The warning text fades out, and the following text fades in:
Translation:
- Normal Variant:
Warning. The works recorded on this videotape are protected by copyright and may only be shown in a domestic environment. Any other form of use of this videotape and the works recorded on it, including public display (such as through cinema screening, television broadcast, showing in catering establishments, or in association or school context), copying, lending, is punishable as a crime. The holographic NVPI security seal proves that you have a legal cassette and is also a guarantee for image and sound quality. Check whether this seal is in any case affixed to the cassette. If you do not find this seal on this cassette, you are dealing with an illegal copy with potentially harmful consequences for your video recorder. Then notify the Video Safe Foundation (020-763149). This cassette is not intended for rental by the retailer, but only for sale. - Early Variant:
If you do not find this seal on this cassette, you are dealing with an illegal copy with potentially harmful consequences for your video recorder. In that case, notify the video distributor.
Variant: There is an early version used from 1986 until 1989 where the text scrolls faster. Also, the NVPI logo is a lavender square with the word "nvpi" in a blocky green font, both of which are white until it flies off the rectangle. The text "Waarschuw dan de Stichting Video Veilig (020-763149)" is also "Waarschuw dan de videodistributeur." the NVPI logo flies away differently, and the bumper fades out afterwards, therefore omitting the text "Deze cassette is niet bestemd voor verhuur door de detaillist doch uitsluitend voor verkoop".
Technique: Early CGI.
Audio: "Frankie & Annette" from Network Music Ensemble. The early version used a funky sax tune with some sound effects recycled from Kijkwijzer
Availability: Found on all tapes that had the Windmill hologram except Rover Dangerfield. The 1989 variant makes an appearance on two Dutch DVDs of HomeComputerMuseum, despite the fact that the DVD was released in the Netherlands at the time the 3rd warning was used.
2nd Warning (1991-1995)
This logo contains an old telephone number. Please do not try to dial it. |
Visuals: On a black background, a clip of people is wiped in with many different shapes in many colors is wiped in. The NVPI logo and a television shape in orange with red lines and the word "BAF" fly in and land on the yellow shape, then a black bar appears and a squiggly red line flies on the border of the yellow and black shape and separates the two in half. As a squiggly flickering line appears in the black shape, the following text is wiped in:
The text then fades to the following text:
The text again fades to the following text:
The text, again, fades out to make room for the following text:
After the last set of the text is wiped away the 2 logos fly off the yellow shape and the copyright "(c)EFO (year)" is revealed on the black bar.
Translation:Technique: 2D animation.
Variant: VCDs had a compact disc wipe in at the same time as the warning text in semi-transparent mode; upon the final wipe-out of the last block of text, the CD would fade back in, this time in full color, and would spin and zoom toward the front of the screen as it faded out. This variant also reduces the number of warning text slides from four to three and removes the hologram notice.
Audio: "Love To, No Can" by Andy Clark.
Availability: It was used on Disney, Warner, PolyGram, MGM/UA, FOX and CIC tapes. It also makes an appearance on a Dutch DVD of HomeComputerMuseum, despite the fact that the DVD was released in the Netherlands at the time the 3rd warning was used. The VCD variant was spotted on a Dutch release of Four Weddings and a Funeral.
3rd Warning (1995-2001)
This logo contains an old telephone number. Please do not try to dial it. |
Visuals: On a smokey background with grey rings, there is a small white cross. Two triangles (one transparent black with the word "BAF", the other transparent white with the words "VIDEO VEILIG") open up and spin around. A white diamond spins in on the center with the following text on it:
After a few seconds, it spins out, and then back in with the following text:
The diamond spins out and back in again in the same way, this time with the following text:
Then the diamond spins out once again, and the two triangles close. The words "LANGSTRY", "DVP", "EFO" and "(c) 1995" zoom in at the center circle, arranged in a curved position. It fades out.
Translation:
- Dutch:
The works, performances, films and phonograms recorded on this image carrier are protected by copyright and neighboring law and may only be shown in a domestic environment. Any other use - including copying, renting, lending and public display (such as through cinema screening, television broadcast, showing in catering establishments, holiday parks or in an association or school) - is, subject to statutory exception, prohibited and punishable as a criminal offense without the permission of the entitled parties. The holographic security seal proves that you have a legal image carrier and also guarantees image and sound quality. Check if the security seal is present. If you do not find the security seal, you are dealing with an illegal copy with potentially harmful consequences for your playback equipment. Then warn: Video Veilig (Netherlands), 035-6215520. BAF (Belgium), 02-4631510. - French:
The works attached on this medium are protected by copyright and neighboring rights and can only be performed in the family circle.
