Background

BRON Studios is a motion picture company founded in 2010 by Brenda Gilbert and Aaron L. Gilbert and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 2012, the company launched a Animation subsidiary, lead by Gil Rimmer and Ben Burden Smith as creative directors. The division's projects include three Mighty Mighty Monsters specials and The Willoughbys for Netflix. Sometime also around in 2012, they also launched a Releasing division which controls distribution rights for live-action and animated film productions, operating in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

In 2016, BRON Media and Creative Wealth Media formed a joint venture, BRON Creative, to fund films. The venture's first film was Fences, released by Paramount Pictures. In September 2017, the company was reorganized with BRON Media Corporation becoming the former's parent company, with the Releasing and Animation divisions also joining the studio as BRON Media subsidiaries. In 2018, a Venture unit was founded, which is a media and entertainment equity fund manager investing globally in a diversified portfolio across the Content, Services and Infrastructure sectors.

In December 2018, the company agreed to a six film slate deal with Warner Bros. Pictures for $100 million in co-financing. They late agreed to another $100 million co-financing slate deal with MGM in June 2019.



1st Logo (November 19, 2010-December 3, 2011)

Logo: On a black background, we see the text "BRON" in a bold, blocky font with jagged edges. Many scenes are seen projected over the name (a la the Marvel flipbook logo) as it slowly zooms away, then fades into full color, revealing it to be in light tan, as it reflects off a floor. The logo continues zooming back before blurring away and cutting to black.

Variant: Sometimes, "STUDIOS INC" is seen underneath the logo in a more basic font.

Technique: The text forming.

Music/Sounds: Mechanical gearing sounds, or the opening theme of the film.

Availability: Rare. Appears on early releases from the company such as Foreverland, Paradox and Jabberwock.

Legacy: The text is somewhat of an eyesore to some.

2nd Logo (April 20, 2013-October 7, 2016)

Logo: On a dark gray background, we see the text from before (now much cleaner and no longer jagged) in a gold color; which is now a little more prominent unlike last time, with "STUDIOS" seen underneath to fit the length. A gold lens flare then shines on the bottom tip of the "O" from behind, going slightly down to the middle point until it fades out. The logo slowly zooms in while all of this is happening.

Variants:

  • At the end of I Saw the Light, the logo is still and appears more contrasted on a black background.
  • On The Birth of a Nation, the text looks washed out and the background is in a faint gray-brown color. Also, the lens flares are absent.

Technique: The text zooming in and the lens flare shining.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the film. For the variants, it's silent.

Availability: Appears on Trust Me. The variants appear on the aforementioned titles.


3rd Logo (September 5, 2014-February 5, 2016)

Logo: We see a bucket pouring lava in a metallic golden factory-like area while the lava transfers into a slide-like thing, and as the camera zooms out, we see more lava being transferred in other areas, similar to waterfalls. The entire thing then encloses into a rectangle on a black background, as it appears to form the word "BRON" from the last two logos. A golden glow then shines on the logo as it transforms into a gold glowing-like rectangle with the word carved into it. Then, the word "STUDIOS" from before (now in 3D) zooms back and positions underneath, completing the animation.

Technique: The camera zooming out, the text forming. Nice CGI.

Music/Sounds: Sounds of gears turning and metal clanging, ending with a majestic-like fanfare when the logo forms.

Availability: Uncommon. Seen on films from the era such as Welcome to Me, Into the Forest, Meadowland, The Driftless Area, and Tumbledown. It was briefly used in tandem with the last logo.


4th Logo (December 15, 2016-)

Logo: On a black-gray background, we see a backlight illuminating the name, as a light then wipes in, making it a metallic silver color, with part of the top-right bit (most noticeably in the "N") tinted in black.

Variants:

  • A prototype version existed during the early usage of this logo. The background is a little bit brighter and the light wipes in from the bottom. The logo also shines.
  • There exists a print version, sometimes smaller.
  • At the end of The Nightingale, the stacked words "FINANCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH BRON CREATIVE" is seen above the print logo.
  • A still version exists, which can be seen at the end of some films.
  • On Kin and on trailers for some films, the logo is shortened.

Technique: The light revealing the name.

Music/Sounds: Usually the opening theme of the movie, none or the closing theme of the series.

Availability: Current and more common than their other logos.

  • This logo made its first appearance on Fences, while the standard version debuted with Drunk Parents and can be seen on films from the company since.
  • This however, doesn't appear on The Spy Who Dumped Me, A Simple Favor or Chaos Walking (despite them being credited as Hercules Bron Creative Partnership).
  • Don't also expect this to appear at the beginning of The Willoughbys on Netflix, although they are credited through the studio's own animation division. Also seen on the TV series Shadowplay and Kin.
