Beyond Films
EnormousRat and Edunk5
Background
Beyond Films Limited was an Australian film sales and production arm of Beyond International Group that was formed in 1989. After years of successes, it collapsed in 2007, and the team decided to move to Bankside Films.
1st Logo (September 19, 1991-April 3, 1998)
Logo: On a black background, we see the same image of the star with a streak from the TV logo appearing via a water ripple effect. Below the star, the text
L I M I T E D
are separated by a line in the same color as the streak. When the water ripple ends, another action is caused above the star by a single fallen water drop. The logo then fades and the word "PRESENTS" appear.
Variant: A still version can be found rolling in closing credits, which is usual for Australian companies.
FX/SFX: The water ripple effect.
Music/Sounds: A soft dreamy tune, extended to the word "PRESENTS" as well.
Availability: Seen on Strictly Ballroom, Hammers Over the Anvil, The Magic Riddle, and probably on Say a Little Prayer. The print version appeared at the end of Kiss or Kill and Heaven's Burning.
2nd Logo (October 10, 1996-October 15, 1999)
Nicknames: "The Blue Portal", "The Blue Vortex", "The Rhombus", "The 3-D Rhombus", "The Star in the Rhombus"
Logo: On a blue background that resembles a portal, a black 3-D rhombus with a faded outline of a star comes flying onto the middle of the screen before stopping. The star emits a gold shine then flashes, turning it white while a light purple streak flashes in with sparks being released diagonally across the rhombus and through the star resembling the previous logo. It then finishes with the star shining. The word "BEYOND", in the same font from before, appears below in silver along with an underline in the same color as the streak.
Variant: A videotaped version exists.
FX/SFX: The background, the rhombus moving, the star and streak flashing in, the word appearing as well as the underline, and the star flashing. This has got to be the most magnificent CGI for a logo from the 90s.
Music/Sounds: A synth ditty, followed by a long deep synth, a flashing sound, and ending with a majestic fanfare.
Availability: Quite rare. Seen on the films Love Serenade (first movie to use this logo), Drive, She Said, Home of the Blizzard, Dead Man's Curve, Forever Fever, Crackers, Stingers, and Suburban Stingers.
3rd Logo (1998-2000s)
Logo: We move though space, leaving the Moon and Earth behind, then the explosion of light erupts, emitting the shock wave and the light becomes purple. The shine then moves to the left, turns into the sign (a black rhombus with a white star inside and an arc) and "BEYOND" unravels to the right, with "FILMS" in small wiped out on a bottom right below.
Variants:
- A still closing logo can be found as well.
- Sometimes, the word "FILMS" is absent. This was seen, for example, on Chopper.
FX/SFX: The animation of the space objects, and the shine.
Music/Sounds: Starts with a crystallized chime before it ends with a short dense fanfare.
Availability: Seen on When Strangers Appear and A Good Woman. The print version appeared in the closing credits of Chopper.
