Background

Big Ape Productions was an American video game developer. Their first game was Herc's Adventures, released in 1997, but they didn't use a logo until 1999.

1st Logo (1999-2001)

Nicknames: "The Gorilla", "Big Ape Gorilla", "The Gorilla of Death", "The Gorilla of Doom"

Logo: A close-up of a gorilla is seen, showing from the eyes to the nose. After a moment, the light blue stacked words "BIG APE" and "PRODUCTIONS, INC." appears on the lower-left corner.

FX/SFX: The fading of the words.

Music/Sounds: A very loud growl of a gorilla, followed by grunting.

Availability: Seen on Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace for PC and the PlayStation and The Simpsons Wrestling for PlayStation.

Editor's Note: This logo has been infamous for being rather startling to unsuspecting players.

2nd Logo (2003)

Nicknames: "The Gorilla II", "Big Ape Gorilla II", "King Kong", "The Big Ape King Kong Logo"

Logo: It starts off with a gorilla opening its eye, shown as grainy film footage. The camera eases back to reveal the gorilla is climbing up The Empire State Building in New York. The city has searchlights scrolling. Two 1930s-style airplanes fly by its head and the gorilla swats at them. As it continues climbing the building, the planes fly by again and the grain goes away. The camera then goes past a sign which says “BIG APE PRODUCTIONS INC.”, just like the previous logo, in blue. The gorilla then goes to the top of the building, roars and thumps its chest.

FX/SFX: Nice computer animation and an interesting tribute to King Kong.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic orchestrated fanfare with sounds of the gorilla and the planes.

Availability: Seen on MTV Celebrity Deathmatch for the PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Editor's Note: A nice tribute to the King Kong series.
