Background: Big Red Button Entertainment is an independent game developer founded by ex-Naughty Dog employees Bob Rafei and Jeff Lander. The company's first title was ''Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric''. A number of factors, such as the game being forced into a three title deal SEGA arranged with Nintendo to release three Sonic games for the Wii U, the system not optimized to run CryEngine 3 (the game's engine) specific to more powerful hardware as well as the game being rushed in order to land on shelves for Black Friday led the game to fail and be regarded as one of the worst ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' games of all time, surpassing ''Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)'' in some respects. Due to the game's failure, Big Red Button laid dormant, but had since resurfaced as a support studio for VR games developed for Oculus.

A number of factors, such as the game being forced into a three-title deal Sega arranged with Nintendo to release three Sonic games for the Wii U, the system not being optimized to run CryEngine 3 (the game's engine) specific to more powerful hardware as well as the game being rushed in order to land on shelves for Black Friday led the game to fail and be regarded as one of the worst Sonic the Hedgehog games of all time, surpassing Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) in some respects. Due to the game's failure, Big Red Button laid dormant, but had since resurfaced as a support studio for VR games developed for Oculus.
