Background

BritBox is a British streaming service owned as a joint venture between BBC Studios and ITV. It was first launched in March 2017 in the United States, followed by a February 2018 launch in Canada; a separately managed UK service was launched in November 2019, which is fully owned by ITV. BritBox offers an extensive archive of programming from both companies, as well as original productions exclusive to the service.

1st Logo (2017, 19 July 2018-2020)

Visuals: On a white background are the words "britbox" and "PRESENTS" divided by a grey line drawing itself with a visible white path leading them. After that, the logo draws in reverse.

Trivia: The BritBox logo was created by freelance designer Gareth David, who also made several color variations and a custom typeface for the service. A case study can be seen on his website here.

Variants:

  • An early version of the logo has it in the same behaviour as the standard version, except on a grey background and the bottom text reads "CREATED BY BBC & ITV" with said companies in their respective logos. Then, after the logo is gone from the screen, a white line with a red and blue path draws a rectangle with the word "PRESENTS" inside.
    • On the trailer to The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, the logo simply consists of the company name. Also, the text inside the rectangle is replaced with "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION".
      • A different trailer would have the logo set on a dimly lit white background with the bottom text reading "ORIGINAL".
  • On KLRN airings of The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, the logo resembles the one from said series' trailer, except the background is lighter and the logo is smaller.

Technique: 2D digital animation by Michael John McIntosh.

Audio: Three notes of a woman singing with a vocal beat performed by a group of females to finish each note. This was composed by Pitch and Sync.

Audio Variants:

  • On the early version of the logo, the first two notes of the woman singing is repeated.
  • On the trailers to The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, the opening and ending of the trailers play.

Availability:

  • The early version with the grey background was seen on KQED airings of Vera season 5, and at the end of the trailer of the first original The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco.
  • The standard version can be seen at the beginning of The Mallorca Files and on KLRN airings of The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, but is usually cut out on most prints outside of BritBox.

2nd Logo (25 July 2018-)

Visuals: Mainly just an in-credit notice of the 1st logo with the BBC and ITV notice.

Variants:

  • On The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, the text "For BritBox LLC" appears above the logo.
  • At the end of The Mallorca Files, the logo with just the "britbox" name is entirely in white.
  • On Magpie Murders, the company name is stacked and the bottom text reads "BY BBC & itv". The logo is also within a minimalist outline of a cube.
  • On series 2 of Traces, the logo appears within the UKTV Original Production logo.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: This is seen at the end of most of their programmes, which includes The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, The Mallorca Files, Magpie Murders, among others.

3rd Logo (3 October 2020-)

Visuals: On a dark grey background, the logo from before (resembling the early variant) starts with the cube within the "i" jumping, followed by the "britbox" name slightly writing backgrounds, the line shrinking, and the bottom text scrolling up and cutting off. Before it entirely disappears, the screen cuts to two circles, one in blue and the other red, passing by each other and revealing a search bar. The blue circle transforms into a square before both shapes run back to each other and disappear while the search bar shrinks in width, transforming into the standard BritBox Original logo.

Variants: The beginning of Spitting Image (season 1) uses a custom variation where after a few seconds, a person in a hoodie (possibly caricatures of Queen Elizabeth II or Greta Thunberg, as well as a yellow alien, depending on the episode) with a white spray can walks up to the logo and sprays it.

Technique: 2D digital animation.

Audio: A ding when the cube jumps, then a whoosh when the logo transforms into a search bar, and then a rising note and another ding leading up to the final formation of the logo.

Audio Variant: On the beginning of the revival of Spitting Image (season 1), the opening theme plays over.

Availability: Seen on the revival of Spitting Image, and can be seen on more original shows from the company, such as Secrets of the Krays and The Beast Must Die.

4th Logo (5 May 2022-)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, the BritBox logo in white is next to a dodger blue vertical bar in a slanted style. To the right of it is "ORIGINAL" in white and a thin font.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: It can be seen on The Dry.
