Background

Buka Entertainment is a Russian game publisher and localizer, founded in 1994. In 2008, it was acquired and merged into its main competitor 1C Publishing. However, the company still operates as a separate brand.

1st Logo (1998-2008)

Visuals: There is a blue spot on the floor and two red eyes to the right. The eyes move to the spot, and are revealed to belong to a red nose, which smiles afterwards. The word "Бука" appears near in a script font, with the full name "BUKA ENTERTAINMENT" being flashed below. The logo shines, causing a ping of light to form the registered mark on the top-right of "Бука".

Variants:

  • On Nuclear Titbit, the orange letter "Я" in the brush-painted font falls down and smashes the "у" in "Бука" into pieces to read "БЯка".
  • On Lokhotronschik: Crazy Loto (Лохотронщик: Crazy Loto), the logo is animated in a Claymation style like the rest of the game.

Technique: 2D digital animation.

Audio: Some synth xylophone-like tinkles, a high string note with a faint drumroll, and a couple of pizzicato notes, followed by a triumphant fanfare similar to those you'll hear in old Russian role-playing games, then an array of whooshes and laser zaps ending with a ding. This was composed by Sergey Chekryzhov.

Audio Variants:

  • In the logo's early years, the music composition was pretty different, but quite similiar. The ding is synchronized perfectly with the ping of the light that forms the registered mark. Like the normal theme, this was composed by Sergey Chekryzhov.
  • There is also a trumpet version.

Availability: Seen on Russian games published and foreign games localized. Early games, which are hardly known even in the local country, have the logo still.

Legacy: A favorite among Russian gamers.

2nd Logo (2008-)

Visuals: The word "Бука" flashes its way through the black background, making it red. When it fully reveals, some words flash in below: "Издательство развлечений" ("Entertainment publishing house").

Variant: An international version exists, where the logo is encapsulated into an oval-like figure with a circle below. The company name is written in English with the byline "Entertainment publishing".

Technique: 2D digital animation.

Audio: A mellow musical choir with a blinking sound.

Availability: Seen on the latest games from Buka, like Collapse.
