Background

C2 Pictures was founded in 1998 by Mario Kassar and Andrew G. Vajna[1], owners of Carolco Pictures, Cinergi Pictures Entertainment, and Seven Arts Pictures (the latter a joint venture between Carolco and New Line Cinema) after those companies either shut down or went bankrupt. The company's first production was the 2002 film I Spy; however, Kassar and Vanja's initial purpose for forming the company was to resurrect the Terminator franchise[2]. Ultimately, only one Terminator film, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, was made by C2; the company had attached two companies, VCL Communications and Toho-Towa, as partners for that movie in 1999[3]. The company also made Basic Instinct 2, a sequel to Basic Instinct released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, who was assigned as producer by C2[4], and Children of Glory. Both sequels produced by C2 Pictures were co-produced by Intermedia Films, who served as a international backer[5].

In May 2007, C2 sold the rights of the Terminator franchise, including the films, to The Halcyon Company, and went dormant after the first season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (which C2 produced despite selling the franchise to Halcyon, who produced season 2) ended, eventually dissolving by the end of the year. The Halcyon Company ultimately declared bankruptcy and eventually dissolved as well after releasing one Terminator film (that being Terminator: Salvation).

Visuals: On a teal/gray/black futuristic background, metal objects come flying from the bottom and top of the screen, then arc to form a "C". Then, "C2 PICTURES" wipes in below.

Variants:

  • A sped-up version of this logo has been used on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the game trailer for Terminator 3.
  • A black and white version of this logo, which isn't animated, has been used on the Terminator 3 video game for Game Boy Advance.
  • A still version appears at the end of Basic Instinct 2.

Technique: CGI.

Audio:

  • Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Movie) - On the background of a metal-like sound effect, a six-note horn stinger, followed by a dramatic/triumphant orchestral finish and drums. This was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, who had previously composed the themes for Carolco and Cinergi.
  • Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Game Trailer) - A shorter, re-orchestrated version of the music.
  • Basic Instinct 2 - None.
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Only seen on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (both the actual movie and game trailers), Basic Instinct 2 and season 1 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
