Background

CBS is an American commercial broadcast television and radio network. The name was originally an abbreviation for Columbia Broadcasting System, its former legal name used from 1928 to 1974. CBS is also sometimes referred to as the Eye Network, in reference to the company's trademark symbol, in use since 1951.

Edit section

Ident (1972)

Visuals: On a blue background, a bunch of lines move. They morph into a circle, and the letters "CBS" in black zoom in.

Technique: Scanimate by Computer Animation Industries.

Audio: A pleasant twelve-note guitar theme, with a UFO sound that ascends when the letters "CBS" zoom in, then a synthesized chime.

Availability: This ident was never used. It was found on a demo reel for Computer Animation Industries from 1972, along with unused idents for ABC and NBC.
