Background

Although the network began in 1961, they didn't start using a closing logo until 1998.

1st Logo (August 8, 1998-July 31, 1999)

Visuals: On a dark murky background, the text "PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH" zooms out. After a second, the then-current CTV logo fades in below it.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The closing theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on the first season of Power Play, Loving Evangeline, and The Waiting Game.

2nd Logo (September 1998-February 6, 2011)

Visuals: Over a video of a wheat field and an orange sky is the CTV logo (which consists of a red circle with a "C", a blue square with a "T" and a green triangle with a "V") at the center, with ribbons flowing from behind them. The ribbons correspond to the colors of the shapes.

Trivia: This logo is based off CTV's on-air identity in use from 1998 to 2011.

Variants:

  • From 1998-2004, "CANADIAN TELEVISION" fades in below the logo.
  • From 2001-2004, a Bell Globemedia byline is added (the then-current Bell Globemedia logo with "A DIVISION OF" above it). Sometimes it had the byline in the bottom right corner, while most of the time, it was in the bottom center.
  • From 2004-2011, there is no text below the CTV logo and the letters in "CTV" appear smaller. The background also moves left instead of right.
    • There is also a version of the 2004 variant where the background moves right.
  • There is a warp speed version introduced in the later years of this logo's life; it has the ribbons flying in as the sky turns from blue to orange, not unlike the end of the full 1998 ID.

Technique: A mixture of live-action and CGI, produced by Pittard Sullivan.

Audio: A synthesized choir note that is held throughout the logo (sourced from the 1998 ident), or a less sudden version with more woodwinds.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, but rarely, a male announcer says "CTV: Canadian Television."
  • There is also a silent version.
  • On a Lifetime Movie Network airing of Murder on Her Mind, a low pitched version was used.
  • In other cases, the end theme to any movie/TV show is used.

Availability:

  • The 2001 and 2004 versions can be seen on Degrassi: The Next Generation on CTV in Canada and Netflix in the US (and most likely on Pluto TV), and Corner Gas on The Comedy Network in Canada and DVD (the first season had the 2001 version, while the rest of the show had the 2004 version), as well as on IMDB TV.
  • The 1998 version is seen on MoviePlex airings of the 2000 TV movie Hound of the Baskervilles, and is retained on Crackle's print.
  • The 2004 version was also seen on Instant Star, last aired on TeenNick.
  • In 2011, this logo was replaced by the Bell Media logo, in a similar style to how rival network Global was replacing their logo with Shaw's the previous year, then with Corus in 2016/2017.
