Background

Calbee, Inc. (カルビー株式会社, Karubī Kabushiki-gaisha) is a Japanese snack food maker. It was founded on 1949 30 April, and its headquarters are located in the Marunouchi Trust Tower Main in Marunouchi, Chiyoda, Tokyo. It launched operations at a new plant in the United States for making its mainstay products "Kappa Ebisen" shrimp chips and "Saya-endo" snow pea crisps on 2007 18 September. Another popular snack they sell is potato fries, called "Jagabee". Its snacks are hugely popular in Asia and are well-known in the United States.

1st Logo (1995-2007)

Logo:

  • Opening: On a black background with a spotlight, the Calbee logo, which is the red word "Calbee", slides in from the left of the screen and stops in the center, with a shadow before the logo.
  • Closing: On a white-gray gradient background, we see the Calbee logo. After a couple of seconds, both "e"s jump.

Variants:

  • At the end of some commercials, the "e"s jump slower.
  • On 16x9 commercials, the closing variant is horizontally stretched to fit the aspect ratio. The Calbee logo is also flat and in a darker shade of red.

Technique: CGI or (in the case of the 16x9 version) 2D animation.

Music/Sounds:

  • Opening: Just a whistling sound.
  • Closing: A female choir singing "Calbeeee..." and 2 drum beats.

Availability: Extinct. Seen on commercials from the time. The opening variant appeared at the beginning of commericals until at least 1998.

2nd Logo (2007-2016)

Logo: On a white-gray gradient background, brown Japanese characters fold in. They move up, leaving room for the Calbee logo which folds in.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A re-recorded version of the theme without the drum beats.

Music/Sounds Variants: A two-note guitar theme plays on Calbee commercials from 2007 to 2010.

Availability: Same as before.
