Background

The Colombian government seized control of TV9-Telebogotá on January 2, 1972 and its frequencies were shuttered until two months later, when its frequencies were repurposed for Tele 9 Corazón. In 1974, control was passed to Inravisión and renamed the channel to Inravisión Segunda Cadena until 1982 when it was later renamed to Inravisión Cadena Dos. In 1992, Inravisión split the programadora system to allow up to 15 companies: 10 regular companies (state-run Audiovisuales, RCN Televisión, Producciones JES, PUNCH, Cenpro Televisión, Colombiana de Television, Coestrellas, Diego Fernando Londoño Televisión, Televideo and GOS Televisión) and 5 news companies (Telestudio for Noticiero del Mediodía, Programar for N7, TV-13 for QAP Noticias and Globo Televisión for Notivisión and Noticiero Cripton) to provide content for each channel. This led to the conversion of Cadena 2 into Canal A. In 1998, Canal A received a new tender (consisting of state-run Audiovisuales, RCN Televisión (until July 1998, when it launched its own television channel, Canal RCN), RTI Colombia, Proyectamos Televisión, Coestrellas, DFL TV, Televideo, CPT, Big Bang Televisión, Andes Televisión, En Vivo Televisión, Datos y Mensajes and CPS Televisión). However, most of these companies left the channel which led to Audiovisuales taking full programming control. On February 2, 2004, Canal A was replaced by Señal Colombia Institucional.

1st Logo (January 1, 1992-July 30, 1998)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a lion running in slow motion. Various red, green and blue streaks are added to the lion until he jumps. The lion turns into a 2D version of it while it finishes jumping into a triangle. The Canal A symbol later fades into its navy blue-silver appearance while the Canal A wordmark appears at the bottom.

Variant: From July 2, 1997 to July 30, 1998, the same animation is used, but in a wavy blue background.

Technique: A mix of live-action footage with traditional animation and CGI, which was done at Producciones JES.

Audio: An upbeat jingle consisting of a mix of piano notes and trumpet sounds with an announcer saying "Estás transmitiendo, Canal A".

2nd Logo (June 13, 1994-July 1, 1997)

Visuals: There is footage of the lion from the first ident, but on a cloud background. When the lion jumps, it fades into the symbol. The symbol later zooms in, shining for a bit until the Canal A wordmark appears. After that, the word "COLOMBIA" appears on the bottom.

Technique: A mix of live-action and CGI.

Audio: The 1992 Canal A theme, but with a different announcer.

3rd Logo (July 31, 1998-February 1, 2004)

Visuals: On a background with multiple lions, a lion walks to the front of the screen. When the background fades to black, the lion gains a fiery appearance. After the background fully fades out, the lion turns animated which turns into the Canal A symbol. After that, the word "CANAL" appears and a red "A" is placed on the last "A" and the wordmark shines for a bit.

Technique: A mix of live-action footage with traditional animation and CGI, which was done by Visión Digital.

Audio: A majestic and triumphant violin theme.
