Background

Carolco Home Video was the home media unit of Carolco Pictures. Carolco had previously had their films distributed to home media by Thorn EMI Video (later Thorn EMI/HBO Video). After this company was formed, the releases were handled by International Video Entertainment (later LIVE Entertainment). After this company went defunct in 1993, LIVE took over distribution in-house. After the original Carolco went defunct in 1995, Le Studio Canal+ purchased the rights to the library and continued to license the films to LIVE's successor Artisan Entertainment. Lionsgate Home Entertainment now holds the license after purchasing Artisan.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 1988 Carolco logo.

Availability: Can be seen on the company's releases of the time period, starting with Music Box and including Mountains of the Moon, Total Recall, Narrow Margin, Jacob's Ladder, L.A. Story, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, The Doors, Universal Soldier and Basic Instinct. This also appeared on certain Seven Arts Pictures films, such as King of New York (which used Live's logos in lieu of Carolco's on the packaging and labels) and Rambling Rose. Its last appearance was on the original release of Chaplin. Despite this company going defunct in 1993, this logo appeared on the 1995 VHS reprint of The Doors and the 1998 Artisan VHS release of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. This logo made a surprise appearance on the 2000 Canadian Alliance Atlantis VHS of Terminator 2: Judgement Day and also on the 2000 Canadian Alliance Atlantis VHS of Basic Instinct (strangely, with the IVE Warning screen at the end of the latter tape). Their print logo was still being used into the Live Entertainment days on releases even after Carolco went defunct and would be phased out when Live became Artisan (with copyrights going under Canal). Oddly, this doesn't appear on The Making of Total Recall. This, along with the "Exclusively Distributed By" variant of the 1990 Live Home Video logo makes a surprise appearance on The Terminator: A Retrospective which can be found on the MGM Blu-ray releases of The Terminator as well as the trailer for the Terminator 2 Special Edition release, seen on the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD. This also plasters the Carolco logo on the 1995 Terminator Collection release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
