Background

This is the production company of producer/director/screenwriter Roland Emmerich. It also operated a television arm.

1st Logo (February 28, 1997)

Visuals: Over a black background, the word "CENTROPOLIS", in a blue, outstretched font, appears. Below it is "ENTERTAINMENT" in white.

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: This was only used on the game Independence Day, which is based on Emmerich's movie of the same title.

2nd Logo (May 20, 1998-March 7, 2008)

Visuals: The camera pans by the side of a flying zeppelin, which heads towards a large city at the horizon. Searchlights beam from the city as two more zeppelins hover above it, while a plane flies past the camera. The city is then outlined into a rectangle on a black background and the stacked words "C E N T R O P O L I S E N T E R T A I N M E N T" zoom in below the picture.

Variants:

  • On Godzilla (1998), the logo takes on an old film effect, segueing into the opening titles.
  • On the trailer for The Patriot (2000), the picture is grayscale and the green color in the name is milder.

Technique: A combination of CGI and a matte painting.

Audio: An orchestral fanfare (composed by David Arnold) with the sounds of transport motors passing by.

Availability: It can be seen on Godzilla (1998), The Thirteenth Floor, The Patriot (2000), Trade, and 10,000 BC. Most films (e.g. The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 and White House Down) merely carry an in-credit notice.

3rd Logo (June 23, 2016-)

Visuals: The logo animates like the previous logo concept, but the differences are the color is tinted gold and one plane goes toward differently. "C E N T R O P O L I S" fades and turns in usually, but in a different font. After a while, the picture zooms out to be enclosed in the black background, while "C E N T R O P O L I S" spreads in to fit the length of " E N T E R T A I N M E N T" (also in a different font), which fades in.

Variants:

  • On Midway (2019), the logo is accompanied by President Franklin D Roosevelt giving a speech.
  • On Moonfall (2022), the logo is in B&W static and alternates between the opening of the movie, which is the Apollo 11's launch in the same effect as the Lionsgate Films, UK Moonfall LLP, Huayi Brothers and AGC Studios logos.

Technique: CGI by Why Worry Production.

Audio: The opening theme to the film.

Availability: It debuted on Independence Day: Resurgence and later appeared on Midway and Moonfall.
