Channel 4 Video

1st Logo (1995-2000)

Logo: It's the same as the television logo, only "VIDEO" flashes in below once the animation is finished.

Technique: Same as the TV logo.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 1992 TV logo.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 Video releases from the era, distributed by VCI.

Legacy: Even though Channel 4's ident changed in 1996, this logo continued to be used afterwards until 2000.

2nd Logo (2000-2005)

Logo: Just the 1999-2004 Channel 4 "Square" logo on a black background.

Variant:

  • Later releases from 2003-2004 have the word "video" in a white box below the Channel 4 Square plus the logo fades in and out.
  • On Bo Selecta! DVDs, the logo transitions to the DVD menu, which depends on the DVD release.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 VHS and DVD releases from the era, distributed by VCI.

Trivia note: The YouTube Channel, called "VCI VHS Youtube Archive" had a few number of those tapes released by VCI, with widescreen videos. While it maintains the VCI logo in fullscreen, it does a zoom-in effect during this ident, while preparing for a 16:9 recording.

Channel 4 DVD

Background

Shortly after VCI and BBC Video merged to form 2 Entertain, Channel 4 ended their partnership with VCI and began self-distributing their DVD releases.

1st Logo (2005-2013)

Logo: Just one of the 2004 Channel 4 stings without any video indicator.

Technique: The logo animating.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 DVD releases.

2nd Logo (2013-2016)

Logo: We see pieces of the Channel 4 logo (with footage from the 2004 idents in them) form together on a gray background, with the complete result forming the logo with the left block replaced with "DVD". The logo then rotates.

Technique: The logo animating.

Music/Sounds: A tribal theme with a clang at the end.

Availability: Seen on Channel 4 DVD releases.

Final Note: As of 2016, Channel 4 licenses its DVD and Blu-Ray releases to Dazzler Media, Acorn Media, among other companies.
