Background

Channel X is a British television company that was formed in 1987 by Jonathan Ross and Alan Marke to produce its first programme The Last Resort. The company then made greater success producing its shows.

1st Logo (September 22, 1989-1990)

Visuals: On a red space background, there is a picture of a red antenna with spinning red sound waves shooting out of its antenna. Behind it was the text "A CHANNEL X Production".

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: It's seen on The Incredibly Strange Film Show and A Set of Six.


2nd Logo (September 22, 1989)

Visuals: Over a red background, there's the transmitter with similar sound waves from the previous logo, but in a light red color scheme and lightning bolts shoot out from the sound waves. and behind it was a TV tube with the words "A CHANNEL X PRODUCTION" on it, with "A" being shown on the TV tube.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on The Incredibly Strange Film Show.


3rd Logo (1990-1999)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a red transmitter with red and white sound waves coming from behind the transmitter with lightning bolts shooting out from the waves. Over it, there's a red TV tube with the words ""CHANNEL"' X" on the tube.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is still.
  • Sometimes, the logo is in-credit.
  • On Tonight with Jonathan Ross, a print version is used.
  • Usually, the logo is shown on the bottom right, but on season 2 of Vic Reeves Big Night Out, the logo is centered.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: It was seen on Channel X's programmes from the era, like Tonight with Jonathan Ross, Shooting Stars, Fantastic Facts, Sean's Show, Saturday Zoo, Funny Business and Barking.

4th Logo (1999-2000)

Visuals: Over a cloudy sky background, the logo starts with the same Channel X logo from the last time, only this time, the "X" is smaller, the word "CHANNEL X" is in white, and the sound waves' animation is improved a bit. The lightning glows when it animates.

Variant: Sometimes, the logo is still.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Bang, Bang, It's Reeves and Mortimer, Comedy Cafe and Families at War.

5th Logo (December 24, 2000-2008)


Visuals: On a black background, there is a red circle with the transmitter from behind it. Behind the transmitter, there are sound waves and lightning bolts that zoom in from each other. Below it, there's the name "Channel X", and some station info from behind it.

Variant: Sometimes, the logo is still.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Channel X's programmes from 2000 to 2008, like Paul Zenon's Trick or Treat, Stupid Punts, Fanorama, Catterick, Snuff Box, Blunder and Modern Toss.

6th Logo (2008-)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a white transmitter inside a grey circle shown behind it. The name "Channel X types in from behind the transmitter, and sound waves and lightning bolts appear.

Variants:

  • Most of the time, the logo is still.
  • On shows programmed by its North division, the text would read out as "Channel K" (2008-2011) or "Channel X North" (2011-present).
  • Sometimes, the logo is on a white background with the transmitter's outlines and the text is in black with sound waves, or with red outlines and black text.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen at the end of current Channel X programmes, like Julian Clary: Lord of the Mince, John Bishop Live, The Jam: About the Young Idea and Home. The "Channel K" version was seen on Lunch Monkeys and the "North" version was seen on Hebburn, Detectorists and So Awkward.
