Background
Commercial Pictures was a film production company of Sofia and Roman Coppola. Their father, Francis Ford Coppola, invested in the company.
Logo (June 1, 1989-March 16, 1999)
Visuals: Against a cloudy sky is a building with a radio antenna on top. The antenna emits sparks (a la RKO Pictures) and the text "COMMERCIAL PICTURES" appear letter by letter in sync with the sparks.
Trivia: The building depicted is Columbus Tower in San Francisco, where the headquarters of Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope are located. The same building is depicted in the current logo of that studio.
Technique: Cel animation.
Audio: A bombastic fanfare by Carmine Coppola (Francis' father and Sofia and Roman's grandfather).
Availability: Can be found on Clownhouse and The Spirit of '76. This logo appeared on the 1999 independent film Ballad of a Gunfighter, which Roman Coppola served as an executive producer on.
