Background

Commercial Pictures was the short-lived film production company of Sofia and Roman Coppola. Their father, Francis Ford Coppola, invested in the company.

Logo (June 1, 1989-March 16th, 1999)

Visuals: Set up against a cloudy sky we see a building with an antenna on top. The antenna emits sparks (a la RKO Pictures) and the text "COMMERCIAL PICTURES" appear letter by letter in sync with the sparks.

Trivia: The building seen here is Columbus Tower in San Francisco, where the headquarters of Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope are located. The same building is depicted in the current logo of said studio.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A bombastic fanfare by Carmine Coppola (Sofia and Roman's grandfather).

Availability: Can be found on both Clownhouse and The Spirit of '76. This logo made a surprise appearance on the 1999 independent film Ballad of a Gunfighter, which Roman Coppola served as an executive producer on.
