Background

Cricket Wireless is an American prepaid wireless service provider. It was founded in March 1999 by Leap Wireless International. AT&T acquired Leap Wireless International in March 2014, and later merged Cricket Wireless operations with Aio Wireless. Cricket Wireless competes primarily against T-Mobile's Metro, Dish's Boost Mobile and Verizon's Visible in the prepaid wireless segment.

1st Logo (2006?-2009)

Logo:

  • Startup: On an orange background, a green circle grows from the bottom with the white text "free from hassles" in it, followed by another above with "free from counting". The background changes to white as a green "k" appears moving at the bottom left of the screen to off-center. The rest of the word "cric et" in black fades in-between as radial semi-circles emerge next to the "k".
  • Shutdown: We see the Cricket logo on a green background. Then it spins rapidly into the screen as a radial blur emerges from it, covering up most of the screen. We fade to black.

Variants: On Samsung’s line of Cricket phones, the Samsung logo would fade in after the shutdown animation.

FX/SFX: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds:

  • Startup: 8 clanging ascending notes, followed by a 2-note atmospheric synthesizer with a bell tune.
  • Shutdown: Another bell tune, with a descending synthesizer and then the clanging notes in reverse order, based on the startup theme.

Availability: Uncommon. Seen on Cricket phones from the late 2000’s; those to be the earliest ones.

2nd Logo (2009-2012)

Logo:

  • Startup: On a black background, the "k" from the Cricket logo fades in glowing. The rest of the word "cric et" fades in white, accompanied by "wireless" below.
  • Shutdown: A reverse version of the startup animation.

FX/SFX: Basic 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: Same as before for the startup and shutdown.

Availability: Uncommon; seen on Cricket phones from the era.

3rd Logo (2012-2014)

Logo: On a green gradient background, we see particles forming the "cricket" text from previous logo.

Technique: CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: A 6-note guitar theme.

Availability: Rare, due to its short lifespan. Seen on Cricket Wireless phones at the time.

4th Logo (2014-)

Logo: On a white background, many lines appear in different colors. They then move away while the current Cricket logo is shown, without the green part of the "k". Then a line zooms to form the finished "k".

Technique: Great animation for the mid 2010s.

Music/Sounds: Something that sounds like a remix of the current Cricket Wireless jingle.

Availability: Seen on current Cricket Wireless phones.
