Background

Crytek is a German video game developer founded in 1999, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany. They are best known for developing Far Cry (2004), the Crysis series (2007-) and the game engine known as CryEngine. They are also known for pushing the limits of computer hardware to achieve advanced graphics starting with Crysis (2007).

1st Logo (March 23, 2004)

Visuals: On a black background, a dark Crytek logo brightly shines from left to right and then four coloured (red, orange, green and blue) arrows begin to swirl around it before arranging themselves above the "Y" in Crytek, shining when they are in place.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: The sounds of drum cymbals gently being hit, then whooshing sounds when the arrows are swirling around. It is then followed by a low synth hum.

Availability: Appears on Far Cry for PC.

2nd Logo (November 13, 2007)

Visuals: On a black background, one by one, the four coloured arrows fly in from their opposite respective directions. They flash, then as they continue to flash while shaking, the Crytek logo's letters flash in one by one while still shaking. While that happens, there are also larger bright flashes before the arrows quickly zoom into the screen and back out again into its position above the "Y". The completed logo shines again before slowly and subtly zooming out. When it stops, it flashes one last time, giving it a hexagonal texture, as if it becomes armoured. Finally, the registered trademark symbol fades in, and the words "Maximum" and "Game" fade in time with the voice saying them before the logo fades out.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Trivia: Maximum Game is derived from the phrase "Maximum Armour", said by the Nanosuit voice in Crysis when the player activates armour mode.

Audio: Whooshing sounds, and then slightly distorted whooshing sounds (which sounds like a robotic scream) as the logo is shaking. Then, a low synth note before a low announcer says "Maximum Game", along with nature-like sounds and rain.

Availability: Appears on the PC version of Crysis and Crysis Warhead. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions use the next logo below.

3rd Logo (March 22, 2011-2013)

Visuals: The Crytek logo appears as if a CRT television is being switched on. It jitters before it finally disintegrates quickly.

Technique: 2D computer effects.

Audio: Tons of robotic whoosh sounds, followed by a cave sound. When the logo disintegrates, a hologram-like shutoff sound plays.

Availability: Appears on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of Crysis, and all versions of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.

4th Logo (November 22, 2013)

Visuals: On a black background, smoke and particles are flying around as if something is burning, and a rusty stone Crytek logo zooms in slowly before the logo fades out.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: The sound of a horn, and a low bass note.

Availability: Appears on Ryse: Son of Rome for PC and Xbox One.
