Background

The Cookie Jar Kids Network, formerly known as DIC Kids Network, and branded simply as "Cookie Jar" or "The Incredible World of DIC" on-screen, was a syndicated television block that aired select DIC (and later Cookie Jar programs) to syndicated television stations in order to fulfill their mandatory E/I criteria, as well as some third-party acquisitions. It was distributed by Tribune Entertainment from 2003 until 2007, and Ascent Media from 2007 until 2011.

The block launched in September 2003 and ended its run in September 2011.

Logo (September 1, 2003-August 29, 2009)

Visuals: There is the shortened version of the 2001 DIC logo. Then, the logo opens up to reveal the logo's background and effects, with the white circle (normally blue) containing the title card logo for one of the shows on the block.

Variants:

  • Archie's Weird Mysteries - On a black background, there is a card featuring the show's main cast, with the show's logo spinning to the middle of the screen.
  • The Berenstain Bears - The show's logo spins onto the top left of a screenshot from the show, featuring Mother Bear, Brother and Sister riding their car, while holding onto a kite with Father Bear clinging onto it.
  • Liberty's Kids - There is the show's logo on a blue background with red/white stripes on the bottom. Screencaptures of Sarah, James and Henri (the same ones from the show's intro) fade to the screen.
  • The Littles - There is Tom, Lucy and Dinky Little riding on a rocket, similar to that in the show's closing credit sequence. The show's logo spins to the top left.
  • Sabrina, The Animated Series - There is artwork of Sabrina riding a broomstick with Salem. The show's logo blurs onto the bottom left of the screenshot.
  • Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century - The "clockface" part of the logo rotates as the logo text zooms onto it.
  • The Smurfs - There is the Smurfs' Adventures logo blur onto a purple squared background with Clumsy Smurf to the right, "presenting" the show.
  • Strawberry Shortcake - The show's logo rotates onto a red squared background.

Variants for Stargate Infinity, All Dogs Go to Heaven: The Series, Sabrina's Secret Life, Ace Lightning, Inspector Gadget's Field Trip, Mummies Alive!, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Trollz, Horseland, and Madeline also exist.

Technique: Same as the 2001 DIC logo with the additional effects.

Audio: The soundtrack from the 2001 DIC logo, but with an extra chime at the end when the show showcased appears on the screen.

Availability:

  • Most of the variants were only ever seen on the syndicated DIC Kids Network block from 2003-2009.
  • This TV's airings of Sonic Underground preserved the respective variant as it used master prints from the block.
  • The Shout! Factory DVD release of Liberty's Kids also kept it on all episodes, as they were master prints sourced from the block.
  • Although some DHX Kids prints of Archie's Weird Mysteries use these respective prints from the block, the logo is removed entirely.

Final Note

The "Cookie Jar Kids Network" era of the block has not been preserved, and so remains lost media.
