Background
Dean Hargrove Productions was a producer of TV dramas (mainly mysteries and courtroom dramas) named after its founder, producer Dean Hargrove. Most of its movies and TV series were co-produced with The Fred Silverman Company. It was originally founded as Strathmore Productions, but the name was changed in 1988 to avoid confusion with the paper company Strathmore.
Logo (November 29, 1988-April 26, 2002)
Visuals: On a white/gray gradient background is a lavender/white gradient circle, with "Dean" writing on top. As "Dean" finishes writing, "H A R G R O V E" in a gold Triple Condensed Gothic font appears under it, followed by a green bar with green lines on the sides under it with "P R O D U C T I O N S" and another green line above "H A R G R O V E".
Variants:
- A shorter version of this logo exists; it begins with the part where the bar with "P R O D U C T I O N S" fades in.
- A still version of this logo also exists, which appears on some episodes of Jake and the Fatman. Also seen on original ABC airings of the final episode of Matlock due to split screen credits.
- On the final season of Diagnosis: Murder, the logo is compressed horizontally, revealing more of the white/gray background.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: The closing theme of the show, or a generic theme on NBC airings of the last two Perry Mason films, and CBS airings of Diagnosis: Murder starting with season 2.
Audio Variant: On the original ABC airings of the final episode of Matlock (due to split screen credits), and the Diagnosis: Murder season 7 premiere "The Roast", the logo is silent.
Availability:
- Appears on Matlock episodes from the era starting with season 3 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Pluto TV, DVD, FETV and Me-TV as well as Diagnosis: Murder on Pluto TV, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Me-TV and DVD, and 1989 to 1995 Perry Mason TV movies on DVD, and on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Me-TV, and Decades.
- Syndicated local late night airings of Perry Mason Returns in 2004 also used this logo as well.
- It also appears on CBS DVD releases of Jake and the Fatman and Father Dowling Mysteries; the latter was also aired on Decades.
