Background
Discovery Networks, (more commonly known as Discovery Channel) is a popular cable channel that first launched in 1985 as The Discovery Channel. The channel shows programming about history, science, and technology. It is most well known for its annual "Shark Week", a week-long programming block about sharks that first aired in 1988. Since 2010, it has been the longest-running cable programming event in history.
