Playhouse Disney Originals
Background
Background
Playhouse Disney was launched on May 8, 1997 as Disney Channel's answer to Nick Jr. However, this network never used its own real on-screen logo until 2000; just the normal Disney Channel logo of the time. On February 14, 2011, Playhouse Disney was relaunched as "Disney Junior", and gained a 24-hour channel replacing SOAPnet, a soap opera channel, on most providers since March 22, 2012, although SOAPnet still survived on some providers as an automated network until its end on January 1, 2014.

Nicknames: "Mickey Mouse Screen", "Mickey Television", "Mickey TV Tube"

Logo: On a grassy hill background with clouds and a sun, we see the words "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" from the 2000 Disney Channel Originals logo. The words then zoom in, and the 1999-2002 Playhouse Disney logo zooms in, sans the word "CHANNEL". We see different character(s) depending on the show waving at us.

Variants: Here are the different characters that appear inside the logo:
*<u>Rolie Polie Olie</u>: Olie and Spot. Also uses the long version, with the flowers growing at the beginning.
*<u>PB&J Otter</u>: Peanut Otter.
*<u>The Book of Pooh</u>: Pooh, holding a pot of honey.
*<u>Out of the Box</u>: Tony and Vivian. Again, also uses the long version.
*Sometimes, the word "CHANNEL" is below the logo, the logo zooms in closer to the screen and the 'playhouse' text has a deeper shadow effect.

FX/SFX: The "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" text and the Playhouse Disney logo zooming in, and the characters depending on the variant waving.

Music/Sounds: A whimsical jingle with a synth voice. For the Out of the Box and Rolie Polie Olie versions, a beautiful-sounding jingle.

Music/Sounds Variant: On the Disney+ print of The Book of Pooh episode "Don Pooh-Xote/Beastly Burden", the logo is silent, presumably as the result of a bad plaster.

Availability: Ultra rare. Seen on episodes of Rolie Polie Olie, PB&J Otter, The Book of Pooh and Out of the Box (the latter two of which are on Disney+, but lack this logo). The logo was removed on post-2001 prints of these shows or plastered by the next two logos and the Disney Junior logo. The aforementioned shows also haven't aired since the mid-2000s and barely received any home video releases; even then, the releases are long out of print and the shows haven't been reissued since. However, the Olie and Spot variant can be found on the VHS release of Rolie Polie Olie: A Rolie Polie Christmas, and the Pooh variant is still intact on the DVD release of The Book of Pooh: Stories from the Heart.

Editor's Note: This was loved by Playhouse Disney viewers at the time.

Nicknames: "Mickey Mouse Screen II", "Mickey Television II", "Mickey TV Tube II"

Logo: On a pattern background, the text "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" appear with the copyright stamp under it. Then, the text and stamp fades-out to make room for the Playhouse Disney logo (which is a Disney Channel logo from the era with "deepskybluemediumpurplereddeepskybluemediumpurpleyellowgreendeepskyblueredyellowgreen" inside a yellow customized shape with a green outline above it), containing different character(s) depending on the show waving at us, inside a Mickey Mouse TV screen. Also, the pattern (and the logo) varies.

Variants: Here are the different characters that appear inside the logo:
*<u>Rolie Polie Olie</u>: Olie and Spot, on a turquoise blue background with lime green, bean-like shapes on the top and bottom and an aqua blue, house/acorn like shape in the middle.
*<u>PB&J Otter</u>: Peanut Otter, on a magenta background with orange, flower-like shapes on the corners and a dark magenta flower in the middle.
*<u>The Book of Pooh</u>: Pooh, on a dark orange background with green, flower-like shapes on the corners and a yellow flower in the middle.
*<u>Stanley</u>: Stanley and Dennis, with the same background as The Book of Pooh.
*<u>Out of the Box</u>: Tony and Vivian, with the same background as Rolie Polie Olie, but the background is green with orange, bean-like shapes on the top and bottom and a lime green, house/acorn like shape in the middle.

FX/SFX: It depends on the variant. This was done by Beehive in New York.

Music/Sounds: A whimsical arrangement of the Disney Channel jingle of the time, which depends on the variant.

Music/Sounds Variants:
*PB&J Otter has a bongo beat and a 5-note jingle.
*On Rolie Polie Olie, the show's closing theme plays over it.
*A high tone variant also exists which is usually heard on PAL prints of pre-2003 Playhouse Disney shows.

Availability: Extremely rare. It was seen on pre-2003 Playhouse Disney shows like The Book of Pooh, Stanley, Out of the Box, and other old shows of the "Mickey Mouse Screen" era, but has been plastered by the next logo or the Disney Junior logo on nearly every new print of these series. However, it was preserved on the Stanley episode "Dolphin Talk" at the end of Stanley: Spring Fever. Don't expect it to appear on the DVD release of Rolie Polie Olie: The Great Defender of Fun, which uses the 2000 Disney Channel Originals logo instead. Surprisingly, it is intact on Disney+ prints of the third season of Out of the Box, and on Disney+ prints of later season 2 episodes as well as early Channel 5 "Milkshake" UK airings of all episodes of The Book of Pooh. The Rolie Polie Olie variant is not found anywhere and needs our help researching to find it.

Editor's Note: A very similar concept to the first logo, the only change being a different, more abstract background. It is still loved by early-2000's Playhouse Disney viewers.

Nicknames: "The Mickey Mouse Head", "The Mickey Head", "The Playhouse Mickey Head", "Yellow Mickey Head", "The Ribbon"

Logo: On a greenyellow background filled with yellowgreen flowers and gold stars (like a variant of the previous logo), a gold Mickey Mouse head with a purple outline flies from the top-right of the screen. Over the Mickey head, we see the text "deepskybluemediumpurplereddeepskybluemediumpurpleyellowgreendeepskyblueredyellowgreen red" with "red" in its corporate logo font. Suddenly, a deepskyblue banner (ala the WB logo) flies up underneath the company name, reading "Impact" in the same font as the Disney Channel Originals logo at the time. The logo is always followed by Disney Enterprises logo/copyright tag.

Variants:
*Originally, the word "red" was below the word "red".
*There is a shortened version which starts with the banner flying up.
*On Disney+ prints of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, two blue bars appeared over the logo.
*On early HD prints of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, the logo is just stretched.

FX/SFX: The Mickey Mouse head flying, and the blue banner appearing. This was also done by Beehive in New York.

Music/Sounds: A 7-note whimsical flute/accordion jingle with drums and a bass, which faintly begins with whatever sounds like a classic Sesame Street tune, used as Playhouse Disney's jingle at the time, with cartoony sound effects and stars twinkling at the end. On other shows, the ending theme finishes over it.

Music/Sounds Variants:
*There's a tweaked variant of this logo on The Koala Brothers in which the same logo is used with a high-pitched jingle (via +1 key, which is 70.87 in cents).
*A silent version exists.

Availability: Uncommon.
*The "Playhouse Disney Channel" variant is extinct, as it was only seen on reruns of their shows from January 2003 until presumably in May 2003 when it got replaced with the second version; however, some episodes of Stanley from that era used this version when it last aired on Disney Junior Canada. It was also intact on a 2004 airing of PB&J Otter episode "Invitation To The Snooties/Too Hot for Fishcicles", and on early 2003 prints of Rolie Polie Olie.
*The second version is much more common as it was kept on older VHS tapes and DVDs of pre-2007 Playhouse Disney shows such as Stanley, JoJo's Circus, Higglytown Heroes, Rolie Polie Olie, The Koala Brothers and Charlie and Lola (the latter 3 only used this logo on US prints); although Handy Manny and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse used the ending theme played over this logo, and My Friends Tigger and Pooh used the 2002 Disney Channel logo instead of this one. On Disney Junior (the channel), this was found in split-screen credits of Rolie Polie Olie, most likely due to a processing error. This also made a brief appearance on an episode of Little Einsteins before the Disney Junior logo was shown, likely due to an editing error. During Playhouse Disney's last few years, this was used in tandem with the next logo. This logo might've last appeared on Little Einsteins: Rocket's Firebird Rescue. Made a surprise appearance on all Disney+ prints of Higglytown Heroes, followed by the 1998 Buena Vista International Television logo.
*Canadian prints (such as CBC's) of shows produced in Canada, namely Charlie And Lola and Rolie Polie Olie, omit this logo.

Editor's Note: Some people may be startled by the quick copyright info appearing directly after this logo; although the copyright info rarely doesn't appear, especially on shows that show copyright info on their end credits.

Nicknames: "The Sunny Day", "The Mickey Mouse Head II", "The Mickey Head II", "The Playhouse Mickey Head II", "Yellow Mickey Head II", "The Ribbon II"

Logo: On a sunny deepskyblue sky background with grass, a tree, a smiling sun, and a yellow bird with a red outline on a tree, we see the similar Mickey Mouse head from before. This time, it's wobbling. Like before, inside the head is "deepskybluemediumpurplereddeepskybluemediumpurpleyellowgreendeepskyblueredyellowgreen red" with "red" in the corporate logo font (just like before). Underneath the "Playhouse Disney" text is a gold ribbon with a purple outline reading "".

Variants:
*On Bunnytown, the copyright information on a black background appears after this logo.
* On 16:9 shows, the blue bars from the 2007 Disney Channel Originals logo (specifically the widescreen variant) are seen.
*A fully animated variant exists, where the sun is in its position, and the camera pans down from just the grass to the bird in the tree and the logo. The logo only wobbles a little in this version.
*A very rare true 16:9 version of the logo exists, without the blue bars and the Mickey Mouse head, tree and sun having adjusted positions to match the wider aspect ratio.
*A stretched version exists.

FX/SFX: Just the yellow sun scrolling and the Playhouse Disney logo wobbling. Design was produced by Mary Snyder. This was done by Ca-Square in New York.

Music/Sounds: Silence, the end theme of the show, or a catchy, sunshiny guitar/drum theme composed by the Imagination Movers, which was adapted from the network's bumper theme during the era.

Music/Sounds Variants:
*A version with a high-pitched jingle exists.
*Sometimes, the theme is shortened.

Availability: Fairly common.
*It appeared on Jungle Junction, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Special Agent OSO and Imagination Movers, among others. This doesn't appear on Disney Junior, which tends to plaster over old logos with the Disney Junior Originals logo. Surprisingly, this logo is kept intact on select Disney+ prints of these shows. Also found on 2007-2010 Playhouse Disney DVDs and post-2010 Disney Junior DVDs of older Playhouse Disney programming, such as the 2013 DVD release of Little Einsteins: Incredible Shrinking Adventure.
*However, the full 16:9 version with absent bars is extinct. It was only seen on a June 23, 2018 Disney Junior Germany airing of Handy Manny, but surprisingly Disney did not plaster the logo. It is unknown if any other shows used this variant.

Editor's Note: A nice take on Playhouse Disney's rebranding on the era and, at the same time, a wonderful finale to the Playhouse Disney branding.

Weirdly enough, despite having never aired before on the Disney Junior channel, plastering the 2002 and 2007 Disney Channel Original logos, this logo can now be seen on new, HD-remastered Disney XD reruns of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. Availability: It debuted on Ariel.
Editor's Note: A favorite of those who grew up watching Disney Junior programming at that time. However, some may be annoyed also by this logo due to its overusage and plastering of Playhouse Disney logos.

Background

Disney Jr. (formerly known as Disney Junior) is a children's television block that premiered on February 14, 2011 on Disney Channel replacing Playhouse Disney. Since March 22, 2012, said block became the current 24-hour channel replacing SOAPnet on most providers. However, SOAPnet still survived on some providers as an "automated" network until its end on January 1, 2014.

1st Logo (February 14, 2011-)

Visuals: There is the Disney Junior logo (with the letters in the word, "Junior" with "i" in the Mickey Mouse suit and a Mickey Mouse head as the dot, in Futura Extra Bold, bouncing in a few times and has "DiSNEY" in its corporate font above "Junior"), zooming out. After that, fireworks fly behind the logo.

Trivia: The fireworks are likely inspired by those of the 2006 and 2022 Walt Disney Pictures logos and The Wonderful World of Disney intros.

Variants:

  • On some newer prints of Little Einsteins episodes (namely "The Incredible Shrinking Adventure"), the 2003 variant of the 2002 Playhouse Disney logo is seen: this is most likely a reverse plastering job.
  • On one 2013 episode and some 2011 episodes of Art Attack, a copyright notice appears under the logo.
  • On some newer prints of episodes of Out of the Box, the 2001 Playhouse Disney Channel logo is seen: this is also a reverse plastering job.
  • A short version exists.
  • On Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends, the logo is superimposed, with the animation intact, and there are no fireworks.
  • On CITV airings of various Disney Junior original shows, the word "PRODUCTION" fades in at the bottom.
    • A still variant of this exists with the word "PRODUCTION" in sky blue.
  • In the UK, this logo was used as a looping sign-off. The words "THE MAGIC RETURNS AT 6am" appear at the bottom.

Technique: CGI, done by We Are Royale in Los Angeles, California. The animation was created using Cinema 4D, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Audio: A suspenseful string build-up with a faint rising synth, followed by a four-note orchestrated tune (adapted from Disney Junior's signature jingle composed by David Norland). Otherwise, the closing theme or none.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, the sounds of fireworks exploding are heard, timed with the notes of the music. This is often omitted.
  • The shortened version has only the four-note tune along with the fireworks sounds.
  • On a DisneyNOW print of Imagination Movers, this logo has the music of the 2007 Playhouse Disney Originals logo, due to a plastering error.
  • The UK's looping sign-off uses no music, and the sounds are fireworks exploding and crowds cheering and talking.
  • On Disney+'s prints of Little Einsteins, when using the French audio track, this logo has the music of the 2002 Playhouse Disney Originals logo: this is another plastering error. Also, all other tracks use the correct Disney Junior theme.

Availability: It appears on programming from the channel and programming block such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Doc McStuffins, Henry Hugglemonster, Puppy Dog Pals, Sheriff Callie's Wild West, and Sofia The First.

  • It also appears on new prints of shows that were on Playhouse Disney such as Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Stanley, Rolie Polie Olie, The Book of Pooh, JoJo's Circus, The Koala Brothers, Higglytown Heroes, Imagination Movers, Out of the Box and Special Agent Oso, plastering the Playhouse Disney Originals logo, which was originally seen on pre-2011 episodes/prints of said shows.
  • It can also be seen on the third season of Timmy Time.
  • This logo is also seen on HD-remastered Disney Junior and Disney XD reruns of Lilo & Stitch: The Series (likely due to the show airing on the UK channel and possibly some other countries), plastering the 2002 and 2007 Disney Channel Originals logos.
  • It also appears at the beginning of BTVision prints of some of their shows.
  • This logo does not appear on shows that Disney acquired from international countries, such as Bluey, PJ Masks, Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes, Dino Ranch, Kate and Mim-Mim, or Gigantosaurus, as even though Disney holds international broadcasting rights, their respective production companies still hold main rights to the respective shows.
  • Despite the network's branding being changed as of June 2024 with a new on-screen logo seen below, this logo is still in use as of this writing on programs like Mickey Mouse Funhouse and SuperKitties.
  • Some international prints delete the logo, for example UK airings from around 2012.
