Background

Diverse Productions was a British television production company that was formed in 1981 by David Graham to produce content for Channel 4. One of the first shows the company produced was The Friday Alternative, before it became a hit through Diverse Reports. The company was sold many times, first in 2004 to FBC Group, then in 2006 to Zodiak Media Group. The company went defunct in 2011.

1st Logo (5 November 1982-1992)

Logo: On a black background, we see the text "DIVERSE" in a strange wiggly font. Above it is "A" and below it is the word "PRODUCTION". Below it is information for Channel Four.

Technique: None.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on early Diverse shows from the period, like The Friday Alternative, Diverse Reports, Election Brief and Check Out.

2nd Logo (9 November? 1992-19 October 2002)

Logo: On a black background, we see the same "D" as it was on the previous logo, except the gradient is shaded as light blue and encapsulated into a gradient circle. Next to it is the word "IVERSE" in the same style as before, with "A" above and "PRODUCTION" on the bottom right.

Variants:

  • An animated version exists. Underneath the logo, multiple teal arrows are drawn, writing out each letter in the company name. The last of them is slower than the rest, and the words "FOR", "CHANNEL 4", and the copyright year are within each arrow.
  • Sometimes, it shares the screen with other logos.
  • On early episodes of The Little Picture Show, the logo is yellow.
  • Sometimes, the logo is in-credit.

Technique: None.

Audio: None or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Appears on Diverse's shows from that time period, like The Pulse, The Little Picture Show, early seasons of Time Team, The Battle for Ideas and some documentaries. The animated variant was used on early programmes that used this logo such as the High Interest documenary "Sick As A Parrot". It made its final appearance on Billy Childish, Confessions of a Sunday Painter.

3rd Logo (23 December 2002-5 December 2005)

Logo: Similar to the previous logo, only the "D" circle is blue, the "iverse" part is in lowercase, and the "A" and "PRODUCTION" text is blue.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, it shares the screen with other logos.
  • Sometimes, the logo is in-credit.

Technique: None.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Diverse's shows and documentaries from the time period. It debuted on The Real Michael Caine and later appeared on Musical Spotlights, Forbidden Fruit, Soul Nation and Priest Idol.

4th Logo (27 February 2006-9 September 2010)

Logo: On a black background, we see the 3D upside down word "diverse" in a serif font that flips in. Then it goes back to normal, then the "i" turns upside down. The word "production" fades in on the bottom right.

Byline: Starting in 2007, the byline "A ZODIAK ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" fades in below the logo.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, it shares the screen with other logos.
  • On shows produced by its Bristol subsidiary, the word "bristol" appears instead of "production".

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Diverse's shows and documentaries from the time period, like The Real Dad's Army, Beat the Star, Tribal Wives, Rocket Science and The Secret Life of the Berlin Wall,.
