Background

Dungeons & Dragons is the brand name of the tabletop game designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. The game was originally published in 1974 by TSR (Tactical Rules Studies, Inc.), and later acquired by Wizards of the Coast in 1997. After its release, the game became a major influence on modern RPG gaming culture both in the tabletop and video game industries. Since the 1990s, a boom of D&D-inspired video games based on previously released editions were officially sold with the Dungeons & Dragons license. The most recent 5th edition of the game was first released in 2014.
