Background

Goldfish is a series of fish-shaped crackers owned by Pepperidge Farm Incorporated. They were first introduced in the early 1960s and are still in stores today. Goldfish did not have an end tag until 2005.

1st Tag (2005-2006)

Visuals: At the top, there's the Goldfish logo shining with rays of light beaming from it. Below it is giant Goldfish cracker with the text "the snack that smiles back" on it in lowercase. A smile is then carved onto the goldfish.

Variant: A shortened variant exists.

Technique: Possibly CGI.

Audio: A 6-note tune with some men singing "The snack that smiles back!" At the end, a chime is heard with a male announcer saying "Goldfish."

Variant Audio: Sometimes, the audio is pushed back and starts before the tag.

Availability: Seen at the end of Goldfish commercials at the time, last seen on a commercial featuring Drake Bell.

2nd Tag (2006-2009)

Visuals: There is a block of cheese and a bag of goldfish on both sides of the screen. A Goldfish cracker then runs down it, making it peel. The Goldfish cracker then proceeds to run into the bag, becoming a part of the packaging.

Variants:

  • A URL is usually seen. Most of the time, the fish will run up and click the URL.
  • A Canadian variant exists with a box instead of a bag. It also has a different design on the box.
  • A later version exists with a small crowd of fish and an orange background.
  • A Whole-Grain variant exists with the bag replaced with a Whole-Grain Goldfish bag.
    • A sub-variant exists with goldfish jumping around in a wheatfield.
  • A Flavor Blasted variant exists. The cheese and Goldfish bag swap places and instead of the fish running down the cheese, it goes up and leaves behind a trail of dust in the air.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The music from before.

Variant Audio: The URL variant has a click sound when the fish clicks the URL.

Availability: Seen on Goldfish commercials at the time.

3rd Tag (2009-2022)

Visuals: An updated version of the last tag. The bag is already there, the camera moves around throughout and the fish doesn't become the packaging on the bag.

Variants:

  • There are different variants for different flavors. The bag may be changed to match the flavor(s) being advertised, and different fish may appear instead.
  • On the Xtra Chocolately and Vanilla Cupcake variant, 2 fish appear.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The music from the previous tags.

Availability: Seen on Goldfish commercials at the time until the Finn and Friends ad campaign ended in 2022.
