Background

MNCTV, formerly named TPI and Televisi Keluarga Indonesia, is a free-to-air private Indonesian television network that launched regular broadcasting in January of 1991 as a sister channel to TVRI and is currently owned by MNC Media since 2003.

Televisi Pendidikan Indonesia

1st Logo (1991-1997)

Logo: Over a blue gradient background is the silver 3D letters "TPI". The camera moves down to reveal a flag of Indonesia and the CG representation of the landmass (this also includes Malaysia in white colors); the "TPI" text flies away as the camera position straightens while a satellite-like object is shown below wiping in the name of the station, "TELEVISI PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA" in serif. The logo of the station then fades in to the upper-right of the landmass, consisting of the slanted "TPI" in red and white and a rainbow trail behind it.

FX/SFX: 3D computer animation.

Music/Sounds: An upbeat synth brass fanfare with gamelan backing.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (1992-1997)

Logo: We see the flag of Indonesia, while the landmass from the first logo, now in 2D, zooms in. Soon the "TPI" letters shoot in near the central region and spin for a few seconds before settling in and forming the slanted logo. The rainbow trail wipes in, while a spinning satellite wipes in the "TELEVISI PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA" text.

FX/SFX: Mostly 2D animation, with the spinning 3D text.

Music/Sounds: Same as the previous ID.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: A somewhat lackluster remake of the previous ident.

3rd Logo (1992-1997)

Logo: Over a red sky, we pass through a golden tollgate while a spinning model of Jakarta's landmarks, also in gold, spin in from behind. The camera moves further back as some other buildings are revealed above what appears to be the Java island. The screen fades to the spinning TPI logo from before, modelled in 3D, over an Indonesian flag with the golden landmass zooming out. A satellite object appears below and wipes in the text "TELEVISI PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA" in a different font; behind it is the TPI logo from before zooming out into position.

FX/SFX: 3D computer animation.

Music/Sounds: A piano theme segueing to a majestic fanfare with a choir singing the station's initials.

Availability: Extinct.

Televisi Keluarga Indonesia

4th Logo (1997-1998)

Logo: We see shots of people doing activities, in order: a bunch of young people biking through the fields, while sunflowers rise in the front; a smiling woman, a diver, a Balinese dancer through the sky, a couple looking at flying sunflowers, a dancing woman, boys swimming through a river along with a bull, the same Balinese dancer, two men accompanied by a woman, a man with his child playing chess, a man shown sitting distracted by the sunflowers, another smiling woman, and another woman.. Then we cut to a black/red animated background with a wireframe globe, with several shots of these people included surrounded by a ring with the "TELEVISI" and "INDONESIA" text in both vertical sides. The same text is also shown in white ringed position shooting away. The "Keluarga" script, in red, moves from the right and settles in front of the globe and ring, and glows, forming the newer logo. The result is very similar to the Family Channel logo. A red light passes in elliptical order, before the logo freeze-frames.

Variant: A shorter 15sec version exists.

FX/SFX: Live action shots at the beginning, followed by 3D animation.

Music/Sounds: A gentle theme with a majestic finish and a choir singing the slogan, "Makin asyik aya!".

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: None.

5th Logo (1998-2002)

Logo: Again, the logo consists of people doing activities but with different footage: first a string band is shown playing over footage of clouds, then a blinking eye, followed by two female potters dancing, a harp player, two traditional dancers holding a bucket, with a shot of a temple behind - it then shifts to the same traditional dancers carrying bamboo bags. We cut to the same harp player and string band again, followed by the traditional dancers carrying the buckets. Then we cut to two females sitting next to some cloth items, who appear to be tasting something. Then there are brief cuts of the harp player, one of the traditional dancers and the string band, followed by the blinking eye. The footage of the previous logo forming then plays, but with the beginning cut-short. After the finished logo lingers for a few seconds, we fade out.

Variant: There's a variant of the ID featuring Bali-themed footage.

FX/SFX: Mostly live-action.

Music/Sounds: A violin theme with synthesized percussion for the entirety of the 1st half. Three guitar notes are then repeated, followed by the choir singing "TPI"; it then changes to a different rendition of the previous jingle with the slogan.

Availability: Extinct.

TPI (2nd era)

6th Logo (2002-2006)

Logo: Over a blue background, a yellow light is shown briefly followed by some golden spherical objects settling over a digital ring. Blue rings appear above and spread out, forming a transparent spherical object briefly showing up the landmass of Indonesia. A "T" is shown writing in and turns glossy while the sphere moves out; the similar sequence applies to the rest of the letters "P" and "I", while the sphere, now in a blue color, places itself behind the T while other digital overlays play on the background. A blue light then shoots in from the center, as the filled logo is revealed, slightly zooming out. Crescents are shown appearing from the sphere and three remain behind the letters.

Variant: There's another version where the animation of the rings is different and the light shooting in behind the logo is green instead of blue.

FX/SFX: CGI standard of its time.

Music/Sounds: Begins with an ascending synth, followed by a repeating synth bell sequence with drums, changing into a brass fanfare. A whoosh when the light appears, then two synth mallet notes when the crescents appear.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: None.
