Background

The Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Comunicación y la Información (English: Ministry of Popular Power for Communication and Information) is one of the ejecutive branches of the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela. Founded in August 21, 2002, it currently manages two sub-units, the Sistema Bolivariano de Comunicación e Información, which manages most of the state media including TV stations and newspapers, and the Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, which manages the operations of most of the telecommunication services in the country. During 2002 to 2010, the ministry has been in charge of announcing the national cadena joint broadcasts by the federal government.
