Background

MoviePlex is a premium cable network owned by Starz Inc. Its primary focus is to showcase an assortment of feature films from throughout the years. The network launched as Plex: Encore 1 in January 1, 1997, and soon gained its current name by the fall of that year. On June 8, 2004, a sister channel, IndiePlex, was launched, followed by RetroPlex in April 4, 2006.

1st Logo (1997-2006)

Visuals: Several texts reading "Encore" appear in various positions of the screen and in different styles, fading in and out. The letters of "PLEX" fly into place, in black-and-white 2D rectangles rapidly flashing between different typography styles. In the background, the text "ENCORE PLEX" flashes at the top of the screen, then again at the bottom, this time with different fonts. Several styles of "Plex" appear throughout the entire logo. Soon after, colored 3D blocks (blue, red, yellow and green respectively) form at the center, covering the original 2D rectangles entirely. As this happens, letter by letter, the silver text "MOVIE" flies in from the left of the screen, in an extended sans-serif font. The silver text "plex" (in an italic serif font) follows, this time fading in close to the camera and flying back, similarly letter by letter. Once finished, the logo rotates around the camera, as the background text continues animating.

Variant: A short version exists.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: For the first half, a rock drum beat. When the colored bars form, four orchestral hits are heard, rising in pitch, with whooshing and timpani hits heard alongside this sequence.

Audio Variant: A voiceover is usually heard, advertising an event on the network.

2nd Logo (2006-)

Visuals: An array of colored transparent squares fly into frame and slowly form a large grid surface. The camera rotates around the squares, after which the squares rapidly spin around. The camera flies past the grid of squares, and quickly moves through a larger space with more squares floating in random areas. Afterwards, a gray gradient appears on screen, representing a floor surface. More colored squares fly towards the surface, revealing "movieplex" below, from right to left. This text, along with the squares, has a reflection on the surface below. After the text is formed, the trail of squares form a larger square with four colors (clockwise from top left: blue, green, yellow, red). Three beams that reach the top of the screen (pink, orange, and yellow respectively) appear behind the square and rotate downward.

Variant: A short version exists.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A liquid drum and bass track revolving around the Plex brand theme.
