Background

Screen Ireland (Fís Éireann) is the national film agency and film funding company of Ireland, established in the 1980s.

The Irish Film Board (BORD SCANNÁN NA hÉİREANN)

1st Logo (Late 1990s)

Nickname: "The Ridge"

Logo: On a black background, a tight spiral going clockwise around is seen on the left, appearing to be made out of bluish-white chalk and surrounded by 2 white arc with lines going into it. On the right side of it, the text "Bord Scannán na hÉireann The Irish Film Board" is seen in 2 rows and is aligned to the right.

FX/SFX: None, it's a still logo.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Appeared on I Went Down (1997).

2nd Logo (Late 1990s-2007)

Nickname: "The Ridge II"

Logo: On a space background, a blue-green nebula is seen spinning while several green meteorites zoom out to the left while forming a rotating spiral shape and glowing green light. As they move into position, the screen suddenly zooms out a bit more and the rocks settle into place, right as the new logo starts to fade in on a black background. The new logo has the same spiral from before rotating, though in a olive green color, a more solid appearance, and no arcs, and the text is now in a serif font while now aligned to the right. Below the logo, a thin white line slides in from the right while a thick green line slides in from the left, with the latter matching the text's length. As soon as the lines reach their positions, the logo freezes.

Variants:

  • Starting in 2004, the logo would be remade to have simpler animation. The spiral spins slightly before zooming our and tilting into position, right before shifting to the left and having the text come in letter-by-letter as the lines below slide into place.
  • An all-white still version exists.

FX/SFX: The rocks and labyrinth moving.

Music/Sounds: An peaceful orchestra piece with whooshes throughout. The later version has this cut down.

Availability: Can be found on Intermission and Inside I'm Dancing. The later version could be found on Isolation

3rd Logo (2007-2018, April 20-December 4, 2019)

Nickname: "Cinema Hall"

Logo: We start in a cinema hall full of people and move to the new logo. it has a roughly draft white board with another purple board inside. Then people rise up inside the board. Right to it, we see "ifb", and below "IRISH FILM BOARD". The Irish name is written even below in purple.

FX/SFX: The animation of hall and lights in CGI.

Music/Sounds: An orchestrated soundtrack. On other cases, it used the opening theme of the movie or completely silent.

Availability: Seen on many films, example are Song of Granite and Brooklyn. Made surprise appearance on Season 1 episodes of Sadie Sparks.

Screen Ireland (Fís Éireann)

4th Logo (2018-)

Logo: On a black background, a white rectangle zooms to us, as more squares appear from it. The text "Screen Ireland" and the Gaelic translation "Fís Éireann" slide from it as the squares shrink. Suddenly, the squares gain an aquamarine colour with black outlines.

FX/SFX: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: Whooshes are heard, then a door slamming is heard, and a rising crystalized sound is heard. As the squares become cyan, another door slam is heard. Otherwise, the opening theme of the movie is heard.

Availability: Common, but no more current. Will be probably intact if some films funded by Screen Ireland are seen, such as Calm with Horses (2019), Wolfwalkers, and Here are the Young Men (2020), among others.
