Background

Star Home Video (not to be confused with "Star Video", one of CEL Video's labels) is the home video division of Filipino recording label Star Music (formerly Star Records), owned and operated by media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corporation. It was founded in September 1995 as Star Records Video, and was renamed in 2007. Aside from music releases, it also distributes ABS-CBN's TV programming and Star Cinema films on VCD and DVD.

1st Logo (Late 1995-2000)

2nd Logo (2000-2005)


Visuals: On a black background, a slanted star shape spins in and zooms out. Meanwhile three arcs, one red, one green and one blue, spin in to the right as the star places. A lens flare then passes through the star, as the word "STAR" zooms-out letter by letter and the word "RECORDS" spins in below. Then a star appears at the "R" of "STAR".

Variant: On commercials for music albums, the byline "AN ABS-CBN ENTERTAINMENT GROUP COMPANY" appears underneath.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A drum loop with a synth.

Audio Variant: On TV commercials for music albums, the voiceover says "Only from Star Records".

Availability: Found on videoke VCDs from the Philippines.

  • The TV commercial variant is seen only on most commercials for music releases from 2000 to 2005, and it also appeared in the 2003 ABS-CBN's 50th anniversary documentary special Limangpung Taong Ligawan: The Pinoy TV Story in October 2003.

3rd Logo (2001-2007)


Visuals: On a grid background with a green light, the star from before zooms in, then zooms out. Then the word "STAR" zooms in, along with "RECORDS" zooming out while spinning clockwise, the three arcs of the logo zoom in near the star, a red rectangle quickly flips in, and the word "VIDEO" appears in front of the rectangle letter-by-letter, from right to left. The grid also starts to move, and various lights pass through the logo. The logo also spins and faces the top-left.

Variant: On My First Lessons with Jollibee (a collaboration video with fast food chain Jollibee), the print logo appears and is in-credit, alongside the in-credit notice for the Department of Education.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rising synth pad, a deep sound, and a riser synth, followed by a gloomy synth note, three whooshes, and then a bell synth arpeggio.

Availability: Appears on more film and videoke releases from the company, such as American Adobo (2002). The print logo appeared only in My First Lessons with Jollibee (released in 2005). It is also seen in SKYFILMS' releases of international films such as A Tale of Two Sisters & Kill Bill (both volumes).

Logo (2007-2017)


Visuals: On a white background with the print logo flying, there is a disc flipping with a rainbow star flying and rotating, and red shapes along with the words "STAR" on the top and "HOME VIDEO" on the bottom flipping. The logo zooms in slowly, which stays on the screen for about 3 seconds before it cuts to black.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A majestic fanfare.

Audio Trivia: The music uses Peter Siedlaczek's "Orchestral Colours" sample library.

Availability: Seen on other releases on VCD and DVD made by Star Cinema and other film companies (including films made in Hollywood), as well as some shows produced by ABS-CBN (now Kapamilya Channel), such as Maging Sino Ka Man, In the Land of Women, Cake (2005), Resiklo, A Very Special Love, A Love Story (2007), The Healing, Pagpag: Nine Lives, RPG Metanoia, Got to Believe, Past Tense, Everything About Her, Loving in Tandem and others.
