Background
Sunburst Digital, formerly known as Sunburst Communications, is a software and educational video company, formed in 1974. It was purchased by Houghton Mifflin in 1999 before becoming independent again a few years later. It has since refocused exclusively on software, cloud and app-based educational materials, selling off its physical media business to Cerebellum Corporation.
Sunburst Communications
1st Logo (Early 1980s-1997)
Visuals: We see a sun rise up during sunrise and, when it's in place, the rays from the sun shine and fade into a white abstract-sun symbol on a black background. The logo zooms up a little bit and the words:
COMMUNICATIONS
in white, fade it below.
Technique: The live-action sunrise.
Audio: A triumphant synth theme.
Availability: Can be seen on some of the company's movies on Learn360. However, it's rather hard to come by.
2nd Logo (1995-1999)
Visuals: We see the Sunburst logo on a sunset background in a parody of the 20th Century Fox logo. After the spotlights turn on, a rabbit comes out, and roars in a parody of the MGM lion.
Technique: Traditional animation.
Audio: A fanfare, with the rabbit roaring
Availability: Seen on games from 1995 to 1999.
3rd Logo (1997-1999)
Visuals: On a black background, we see a yellow, spiral sun symbol rise up the bottom while below, the word "SUNBURST" in a Comic Sans-like font spell out one-by-one and after that the word "COMMUNICATIONS" fades in below.
Technique: The logo appearing.
Audio: A dreamy synth tune.
Availability: Once again, seen on some of the company's films on Learn360, but not nearly as much.
4th Logo (1999-Late 2000s)
Visuals: On a black background, a white streak arc is being drawn, later three white streaks are being drawn above it with the last one being glown out which later turns into gold. Then, the text "SUNBURST" fades in.
Variants: Unknown.
Technique: The streaks being drawn, the glow and the fading.
Audio: A synth horn note and 3 fast chimes. Sometimes none.
Availability: Can be seen on software games from the company, such as Type to Learn 3.
5th Logo (Late 2000s-)
Visuals: On a black background, a glowing spot draws the outline of the shape of the sun which later fills into gold when finished drawing. The text "SUNBURST" fades next to it, and a gold curvy line is being drawn.
Technique: The drawing and the fading.
Audio: Same as the last logo.
Availability: Can be found on later games and DVDs from the company. [Examples?]
