Background

From their debut all the way to August 1998, Teletoon began airing IDs which were based on individual planets with their own unique art-style that changed after a certain period of time passed. Claymation was used for the morning, cel-animation for the afternoon, cut-out animation for the evening, and paper-mache at night; the content of the IDs also got darker as time went on. At around August 1998, these were replaced by more generic and normal IDs, many of which were done by Guru Studio.

Planet Spin Filler / General ID (1997-1998)

Nicknames: "Teletoon Planets", "Ahhh"

ID: On a starry space background, a golden telescope is seen, with the refractor spinning around clockwise once before lifting itself up a little with the aperture pointed right in front of the screen and zooms in with the refractor turn back and forth a little until the camera zooms right into the lens. Through the lens, the telescope focuses on 4 completely different planets, each with their own unique look and set against a barrage of stars:

• A pink planet, rotating counterclockwise on its Y-axis, which is filled with craters either seemingly alive, filled with alien creatures, or vacant. This is the Morning Planet and is made with claymation.
• A metal planet, rotating counterclockwise on its X-axis at a slight angle, which appears to be sketchy, rough, and haphazardly built with multi-colored parts jutting out from the pale blue surface. This is the Afternoon Planet and is made with flat 2D animation.
• A strange planet, which doesn't rotate, which has a pink/blue gradient sky and has several things going on at once. This is the evening planet and is made with cut-out animation. It has a fisheye look to it.
• A dark planet, which rotates clockwise on its X-axis, which appears to be small but has several tall skyscrapers jutting from it, all seemingly dark and deteriorated. This is the Night Planet and is made with paper-mache animation.
• After the night planet moves away, the lens zooms in and the Teletoon logo at the time slides in to the left. It consists of "TELE" in a tall blue font with raised tops on the E's (possibly to be cross-compatible for the French version, which has acute accents over them) and "TOON" in a handwritten font, which has filled sections in the O's, blue circles, and a red swish below it, forming a smiling face. The logo also switches through 4 different variants in the same style as their planets. The 2D version has the eyes move, and the night version has the letters pop forwards, but all of them shake slightly and move a bit.

FX/SFX: Everything, this was all done with claymation, paper-mache, cut-out college, and cel animation from Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Music/Sounds: A somewhat chaotic and strange tune, with several voices, noises, and instruments heard throughout. When the Teletoon logo appears, a 3-note whistling tune can be heard, which would be the main theme for the channel.

Availability: Extinct. This was seen on the launch.

Editor's Note: The bizarre music and confusing concepts can unnerve those who seen it for the first time.

Morning Planet: Tug-a-War (1997-1998)

ID: We see two muscled aliens on the pink morning planet struggling to pull a rope, we then pan to the right to see a red little alien pinching onto the rope only with his right hand while observing his left hand and then faces towards the screen and waves. Then the Teletoon logo, smushed into a ball, is seen coming from the top of the screen and is then the ball reverts back into the Teletoon logo. The action behind the logo then is blurred and a blue border is seen surrounding it while the letters and the face on the logo starts to shake a little.

FX/SFX: Claymation from Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Music/Sounds: An bass-like theme, the aliens struggling, and a joyful version of the Teletoon Theme.

Morning Planet: Silly Symphony (1997-1998)

Nickname: "Singing Aliens"

ID: We see the Morning Planet in a blue, cloudy background. We then cut to four aliens, one of them being their maestro As the maestro starts pointing at one of the aliens, that said alien starts to hold a note, before another one starts holding a higher note, and lastly another one holds a higher note for a while, all singing together in a duo, before eventually, the Teletoon logo appears in the same way as the previous logo.

FX/SFX: Same as "Tug-a-War"

Morning Planet: Hot Soup (1997-1998)

Nicknames: "Alien Soup"

ID: We see a red alien (not the same one as the "Tug-a-War" ID) with a spoon on a crater filled with bubbling soup. The alien then scoops a bit of soup with their spoon and blows it right into the screen with the soup covering up the entire screen in green and then a ball is seen that forms into the shaky Teletoon logo (just like the "Tug-a-War" ID).

FX/SFX: Same as "Tug-a-War"

Music/Sounds: The soup bubbling, the alien picking up & blowing on it, and a joyful rendition of the Teletoon theme.

Morning Planet: The Big Slurp (1997-1998)

Logo: We see the Morning Planet. We cut to its craters (3 of them are different colors) and a yellow alien appears, drinking the craters with a straw. Then we zoom in to a blue alien with eyes, then a second later, its eyes pop out, showing the Teletoon logo.

FX/SFX: Same as "Tug-a-War", "Silly Symphony", and "Hot Soup"

Music/Sounds: A chorus note, a slurping sound, and a joyful rendition of the Teletoon theme.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: The eyes popping out can scare some people.

Afternoon Planet: Magneto Woman (1997-1998)

ID: We see the Afternoon Planet on a strange purple space background while all surrounded with floating vehicles. We then see a view of the surface of the planet which we can see multi-colored buildings and houses. We then zoom into the window of a purple/blue house and into a room in the house with the door is seen getting knocked down from a robot after couple of attempts of trying to, he then steps closer to the screen and grabs a magnet and points it directly towards the screen which then flashes into a different view with it viewed possibly on some TV screen, the colors turn all green expect for the magnet and the robot's skirt, two metal nuts are seen getting stuck into the screen from the magnet and then the Teletoon logo, then the ID behind the logo is blurred and the logo is seen shaky a little in a different way than the other Planet IDs.

FX/SFX: Cel animation from Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Music/Sounds: A futuristic theme, robotic noises, metal clanking when the robot hits the door, a array of sounds as the robot approaches, and a sci-fi ish version of the Teletoon theme.

Afternoon Planet: Robots (1997-1998)

Notice: this template has been replaced by {{Guidance}} and {{Guidance detail}}

Logo: We see the same view of the Afternoon Planet as in "Magento Woman". We cut to a robot zapping with his eyes, and chasing other robots, and zapping again, but this time, it's mirrored. Then the robot moves again, then we go down to a dog. He is sniffing at the robot's foot, then he lifts his foot up, peeing on the robot, causing a short circuit After 2 seconds, we cut to the dog, smiling, with the robot (who's still flashing), after 2 seconds, then the screen becomes blurry and the Teletoon logo zooms out.

FX/SFX: Same as Magneto Woman.

Music/Sounds: A futuristic theme, zapping, the dog sniffing, the flashing, and a sci-fi rendition of the Teletoon theme.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: The flashing from the robot can cause epilepsy to sensitive viewers, and the dog may remind you of the Trollface.

Afternoon Planet: Bruce's Comeuppance (1997-1998)

Logo: We see a fish swimming through the sea, smiling. Then we cut to a whale swimming too and the fish reappears, after a few seconds, he got shocked, than the whale chomped him. Then the Teletoon logo appeared.

FX/SFX: Same as "Magneto Woman" and "Robots".

Music/Sounds: A synth layer that sounds similar to the Jaws theme, and then the Teletoon theme after

Availability: Extinct. Only a second of this was found in one of Cuppa Coffee Studios' promos. The full ID was once lost, but has since been uploaded on YouTube by someone called The Eye.

Editor's Note: Very reminiscent to Jaws and New York in the 2000s.

Afternoon Planet: Birdbrained (1997-1998)

Logo: We see a bird flying around Toronto. The camera turns to the bird, whose flying gets increasingly faster. The bird hits the screen, breaks with his brain coming out, and he falls down as the Teletoon logo appears.

FX/SFX: Same as "Magneto Woman", "Robots", and "Bruce's Comeuppance".

Music/Sounds: TBA.

Evening Planet: The Parade (1997-1998)

Logo: On a neighborhood road, we see an audience of people, animals, and heads on the street, some holding balloons with the Teletoon face on it. On the road, we see a parade of a family with musical instruments as bodies. We first see three of them: a mom with a violin body, a dad with a accordion body, and a boy with a trash can body he uses as a drum who at one point screams. We then see a baby with a French horn body and a pacifier in their mouth. They take the pacifier out of their mouth, and the pipe of the french horn with a tongue and a first set of teeth can be seen coming out of their mouth. Shattered specs are seen gathering up to form the Teletoon logo, which shakes a bit.

FX/SFX: Cut-out animation from Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Music/Sounds: The people singing in the parade, the kid saying "Tooon", and the baby yelling out the Teletoon theme.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: The strange, bizarre noises at the end, as well as the surreal animation and the odd baby, will be likely to throw many off.

Evening Planet: The Honeymooners (1997-1998)

Logo: On a road, we see a man and a woman in a yellow/white vintage car with the Teletoon logo seen on its license plate. The car runs over a strange-looking head, which triggers the car to rapidly shape-shift into various shapes until is stops shifting and is stuck in a deformed condition. We then see the back side of the car to show two kids/babies sitting in the back. The Teletoon logo comes into the screen in the same way it did in the "The Parade" ID.

FX/SFX: Same as "The Parade".

'Music/Sounds: A choir consisting of Aahs', an array of sounds when the car shapeshifts, the spring as the logo forms, and a whistled version of the Teletoon theme.

Evening Planet: Postie's Revenge (1997-1998)

Logo: We see the Evening Planet in front of a black background surrounded by white hands in the shape of fists and flies. A mouth attached onto a house eats one of the flies. A delivery man with a package is seen walking on a street and whistling. A dog with human head runs up to him and barks while the man stops walking and whistling. A giant pig-like monster with old granny glasses and a long red accordion/spring like body then pops out of the box and eats the dog. Then the Teletoon logo appears in the same way it did in the "The Parade" and "The Honeymooners" IDs.

FX/SFX: Same as "The Parade" and "The Honeymooners".

Music/Sounds: An array of random noises as the planet shows up, the mailmen whistling, the dog barking & whining, a cartoony spring sound as the pig monster pops up, and a whistled version of the Teletoon theme.

Editor's Note: The postman was thought to be Chris Mullington, but this was not confirmed.

Evening Planet: Kafka und Kake (1997-1998)

Logo: The logo starts with the same view of the Evening Planet as "Postie's Revenge". We then see food, then it opens up to reveal three strange fly-like creatures having a picnic. One creature panics and runs away, as another follows. The screen becomes blurry, and a hand hits the remaining creature, making the Teletoon logo appear.

FX/SFX: Same as "The Parade", "The Honeymooners", and "Postie's Revenge".

Music/Sounds: An array of random noises as the planet shows up, a choir consisting of 'aahs', buzzes, the creature panicking, and a 'iih' rendition of the Teletoon theme.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: The hand hitting the creature is unnecessary, and the creatures themselves are also freaky. It can scare many people.

Night Planet: Peeping (1997-1998)

Logo: We see the Night Planet surrounded by a few other planets. We then pan the planet's city as we peep through the windows on one building. The first window we see is basically nothing but a green thing (possibly a curtain) on the right. In the next window we see a guy wearing a white tank top and a woman kissing. The next window shows a woman rising up. We then pan to one more window showing a guy taking his tie and glasses off. A woman with a black dress is seen coming from the left of the window and closing the curtain. We then fade in to the shaky Teletoon logo on a black background.

FX/SFX: Paper-mache animation from Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Music/Sounds: An ominous theme, a array of sounds from the creatures, the green guy saying "Teletoon" backwards, and a spooky variant of the Teletoon theme

Night Planet: Death of a Ladies Man (1997-1998)

Logo: We pan down to an area with small buildings. A guy is wearing a black jacket and red pants on the corner of a building and holding a hat (which looks like it may have been a police hat) which he then puts on. A red foot with a high heel on is seen around the corner of the building with the leg moving up and down. We then see a close-up of the man moving his eyes toward the screen then looking back to the foot. The foot is revealed to be attached to a green monster, We get another view of the monster until the same Teletoon logo as the previous ID above fades in.

FX/SFX: Same as "Peeping".

Music/Sounds: An ominous theme, the woman's moans, a "bo-do-ding"-like sound effect, the monster's slurping / breathing noises, and a creepy version of the Teletoon theme.

Editor's Note: This bumper was created to replace "Leg Man," as it was too violent, even for a nighttime adult-oriented block.

Night Planet: Cute Baby (1997-1998)

Logo: We pan down to an area with small buildings (just like the "Death of a Ladies Man" ID). We pan further around a baby stroller left on the street, and then it cuts to a different view which reveals a clown-like baby. We then get a close-up of the baby as it starts to move a little. Its head opens up to reveal a mouth with sharp teeth and further opens up to reveal another set of teeth but turned vertically. The second set of teeth opens up to reveal a tongue or a leech with a mouth and a pair of teeth on it. The baby jumps into the screen, which causes the Teletoon logo to fade in (the same one as the two previous IDs).

FX/SFX: Same as "Peeping" and "Death of a Ladies Man".

Music/Sounds: A suspenseful horror theme going louder in tone, kids laughing, the baby cooing, a heartbeat, the K-Fee scream in a low pitch accompanied by evil laughing, and a creepy version of the Teletoon theme.

Music/Sounds Variants: One variant doesn't have the horror theme.

Editor's Note: The jumpscare from the baby screaming will definitely catch many off guard, though this was intentional because this was a night-time block.

Night Planet: Crown Me (1997-1998)

Logo: The beginning of "Peeping", but at the 3rd window, we see a man and a woman playing a game of checkers. After a while, the Teletoon logo appears.

FX/SFX: Same as "Peeping", "Death of a Ladies Man", and "Cute Baby".

Music/Sounds: An ominous theme, shots, the man and woman moaning, and an eerie version of the Teletoon theme.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: The whip-cracks that were used in this logo were also used in Johnny Test, which would later air on the network 8 years later. The audio of this logo as a whole sounds like... something, possibly intentionally, so it is recommended to be careful where you watch this ID with the audio on.

Night Planet: Leg Man (1997-1998)

Logo: We pan down to an area with small buildings (just like the "Death of a Ladies Man" and "Cute Baby" IDs). We pan further down to a creature hitting a wall with his head. Then he looks at a leg. We pan back to the creature but this time moving his head and hands around. Then we see the green monster from "Death of a Ladies Man". After that we cut to the Teletoon logo.

FX/SFX: Same as "Curtain", "Death of a Ladies Man", "Cute Baby", and "Crown Me".

Music/Sounds: An ominous theme, head-banging sounds, the creature saying some sounds including "Teletoon" backwards, and a creepy sound, followed by an eerie version of the Teletoon theme.
