Background

USA Network is a television channel owned by NBCUniversal.

1st Logo (1985-1987)

Visuals: Unknown.

Variant: There is a short version of this logo.

Technique: 2D animation

Audio: An 8-note theme with an announcer saying "You're watching the USA Network".

2nd Logo (1990-1994)

Visuals: Unknown.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An 11-note saxophone theme with an announcer saying "You're watching USA, America's Favorite Cable Network".

3rd Logo (1996-1998)

Visuals: There is an outside view of the fictional USA Studios. Then, the camera zooms to reveal some people working and filming at the control room filled with screens showing USA's original programming, sports programming and graphics as well as the SMPTE color bars. At the end, we look to a blue star with the words "USA NETWORK" next to it, leaving a shadow effect.

Technique: Camera animation by Pittard Sullivan.

Audio: A 3-note tune, which has eventually become the network's official jingle.

4th ID (2002-2005)

Visuals: Two variants exist:

  • One variant shows 4 white lines over a blue background zooming and folding in various directions as the camera pans around. As the screen zooms into one of the lines, the screen zooms back out to see four more lines above moving in the same direction before 4 lines (2 of each segment) turn to move away from the camera whilst the other lines continue zooming until they reach the white text "USA". As they do so, they appear on the right side of said text as five lines in a downward waving pattern.
  • Another variant is set on a white background, where there are three lines that are all red. The lines are seen zooming and turning (this time smoothly), as well as "separating" before reaching the company name (in red) and forming the same waving symbol as shown in the other logo.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A 2000s-esque rock tune.
