Background

EA Sports Freestyle was a banner label EA Sports launched in 2008, which focused on casual/arcade-type sports titles, a la the extreme sports line this label replaced. Only five games were released under the Freestyle banner before it was quietly retired.

(September 4, 2008-February 12, 2009)

Logo: On a blue background, the EA HD logo takes place. After done, "EA" moves a bit right and is rounded with a glowing circle. Everything else clears, but "SPORTS" appears below inside the circle. The EA Sports logo immediately explodes into a solid white circle with blue edges and letters, which glows and flips. It then zooms into the lower part of the screen, and the stylized text "freestyle" appears above, with each letter connected to the circle. The EA Sports byline is very small below the logo.

Variants:

  • On FaceBreaker, after the logo is complete, Brick (one of the boxers in the game) comes and punches the logo, shattering it.
  • On Wii titles by the company, the EA HD logo is cut out.
  • On 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the background is orange, and the EA HD animation is cut out.

Technique: CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: Several whirling sounds. The FaceBreaker variant also has Brick shouting "EA Sports!" then Ice (another boxer from the game) saying "Freestyle.", as well as Brick grunting, a glass shattering sound, and him exclaiming "Yeah!".

Availability: Appears on FaceBreaker for Xbox 360 and PS3, its Wii port FaceBreaker K.O. Party, Celebrity Sports Showdown for the Wii, NASCAR Kart Racing for the Wii, and 3 on 3 NHL Arcade. The latter game has since been delisted from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live stores, but it is available as a demo on the PS3 versions of NHL 11 and NHL 12, so it may still be on there.
